CAMPING WORLD - Buyer Beware!

I'd like to be able to say that I "always" compare prices before rushing out and making a purchase. I can't say that however because yesterday I got caught up in the moment and assuming that I'd at least get a "fair" price, I pulled out the wallet and laid down the card. The cashier proudly showed me on the bill that I'd saved $17.00! Terrific! I'd decided to augment my saniflush with a Flush King reverse flush valve. Camping World sold me one for $49.99 and on the bill indicates that the regular price is $66.99. WOW ... I saved $17.00 with my Good Sam membership ... or did I?
When I got home I decided to check on-line for the same product. After-the-fact does count sometimes doesn't it? Amazon has a new one for $25.30 with free shipping. Other retailers were priced from $32.91 to $36.80. Some guy on eBay had one for $42. with free shipping.

If this were the first time I'd been stung by Camping World's pricing or if I hadn't driven 50 miles to get the part, maybe it wouldn't hurt as much but clearly they appear to have little respect for their customer. Let's hope it was a simple pricing error. "Caveat Emptor" was what some latin guy once said and it applies to purchases from Camping World IMHO.

Seems their prices can vary wildly item to item, from pretty good to very high. Does require some diligent checking if you want the best price.

CW prices vary from on line, on phone and in store.
Then their shipping cost are out of the sky.

When I quoted a on line price to a phone operator he said he would adjust the price. then he charged me higher shipping. When ask why the shipping was higher that on line he said he would adjust that.

The full amount hit my card and "gift cards" were issued for the adjusted amounts. NOW I have to purchase some thing else to use the gift cards. THAT WHY I MADE THE FIRST PURCHASE WAS TO USE A CHRISTMAS GIFT CARD SOMEONE GAVE ME.

Recently I was in a CW and they had an electrical items on the clearance shelf. No price marked. So I ask and was told $40 if I was a club member or $120 if not.
I went home and ordered the same new item on Amazon for $32 free shipping.

C.W is nearly always very high except for a occasional special. I buy there when they have a hard to find item or if I need a item right now and do not have the time to shop around.

I just bought a Fan-Tastic Fan (online) to replace my small bath vent fan from CW. Same price (with shipping) as Amazon and less than EBay. One thing I have learned about CW is that I rarely purchase anything from them that is NOT on sale. Sort of like it used to be with Sears (remember them?). There-ya-go...not all bad

Camping World: Convenient, yes. Economical, no. I admit to shopping there when I need something that I might otherwise have trouble finding. But, I know I'm going to pay more for that convenience.

Camping World has a price match guarantee. If you find a brick and mortar storefront that advertises a lower price, Camping World will match that price and give you a gift card for the difference. When I had a satellite dish installed, I found the price of the satellite to be $100 at another competitor. I brought in their and and CW gave me a $100 gift card.

Check it out and use this guarantee. It worked for me.

Agree, you can always find lower prices than what CW has for the same products. We seldom use them anymore.

I understand that prices will vary from store to store BUT if the prices are set fairly, you're not likely to see a variation (in this case) from what I paid from Amazon (Tweetys) ... $25.30 including FREE shipping and $66.99 which CW claimed as their "regular" price. Maybe it's the free popcorn that raises their overhead.

Maybe it's Good Sam owning them and the CEO's exuberant salary? I don't know! Heck, they got to pay for those top name entertainers at the Samborees somehow!!

CW is a good place to go window shopping for ideas and then go home and get on line......lol The wife and I like to look at RV's too. But at CW they are so high pressure and all their rigs are locked that I doubt I will ever buy an RV there..... We have never gone in to specfically to buy an RV but during our window shopping trips it sometimes happens lol lol...

Agreed! It's a good place to get ideas for improvements, additions, innovations, etc. then hit the keyboard!
Confession time ... I did buy our Montana at a CW in San Marcos, CA. I must have caught them at a weak moment because the price was too good too pass up.

Have always shopped Amazon in the past. Usually get free shipping with my Prime membership. Have never ordered from Ozz but will start checking his pricing, would rather give him my business than CW. Not a big fan of CW since dealing with their incompetent service department at their Indianapolis location even though that's where we purchased the Monty. Not always the best deal, not always the best service!

Thanks! Sometimes the advice and 'after sale service' needs to be considered, price is good, don't get me wrong, I shop around too. Some items I can discount more than others, the list price is not often the price I sell for. I try and always give a good discount to MOC folks. When you order from most folks, they do not have your best interest at heart.
I used to be disappointed with my C.W experiences, but occasionally bought from them, would have rather not..
Don't anymore
Thank you also Dick.
Remember this: The bitterness of poor quality and service, remains long after the sweetness of the cheap price is gone.
