Golf Carts
We just got a Golf cart at our "home base" site. We decided since we would spend several months here each summer it would be worth it. There are trails, a service road, and the parks interior roads to use it on. We can reach a couple restaurants, pool, some bars, and a marina. How many members out there have golf carts, how much do you use them, and what do you use them for?

I wonder about towing a small, two wheel trailer behind my Monty with a golf car?

No golf carts Just 2 Scooters they are fun, nibble ,easy to carry on the Monty and will go about 55MPH, although a golf cart would be cool if we could take it out on the Road. Man that would be a sight cruising down the Hwy on a Golf cart

JandC,
Don't forget to look in liability insurance. Most homeowners liability policies restrict coverage to golf only. Many can be endorsed to extend coverage for a nominal fee, some may include coverage. You'd be surprised how many claims there are and worse yet, to find out you don't have coverage after something happens.

Re insurance on a golf cart .Of course check with your agent about coverage. Ours is NOT street legal, is not registered as a motor vehicle, does not have a title, top speed is about 19 MPH more realistically @ 12mph.We use it on the Golf course and in the RV park and we can get to a small shopping strip and restaurants without going on a city street. It is covered under our home owners Insurance. If it is street legal it is a different story.

I'm a retired Ins Broker. Most Ins Co's now exclude coverage on owned ATVs & golf carts etc due to increase in claims frequency. When you use one golfing that is owned by the golf course, HO Liability extends coverage in most cases if you cause an accident and someone is injured. But when you own the cart, most Co's exclude coverage unless you pay extra for golf cart coverage, whether its on private property, in the campground, or the course. If your agent tells you your covered, ask him to put it in writing or show you where to find coverage in your policy. Some HO policies just have an owned motorized vehicle exclusion period.

We keep a golf cart at our site in Florida. Through my insurer, for $220 a year, I have an umbrella liability policy which doubles the liability coverage on the house, on the vehicles, on my boat, and includes the golf cart; in fact it covers both myself and the wife whatever misadventure we find ourselves in. I pay that $220 every year with a smile.

Good point about the insurance. With just our RV and auto policy now I was just going to insure the cart against theft probably under my RV policy. I wasn't going to do that until I ordered the thing and started adding options. I will need a policy that includes liability issues though. We would like to have our cart in Florida for winter but really don't want to pull it. The business that sold it to me customizes carts and services customers throughout Florida. He is suppose to get me a quote on transporting it to Ft. Myers around January and bringing it back in March. It will probably be too costly.

I will have to question my Agent again on Golf cart coverage. It is not a motor vehicle, It is not street legal. It is just a golf cart with a fancy paint job. In reading my policy I see no mention of Golf cart covered yes or no. I will go to the office and check it out again.

It seems reasonable the cart would have to be added on a rider. It was stated that it was covered under "personal proptery" sine it was not a motor vehicle or street legal. but I am doubting that.

Rich
I have had a Golf Cart for 7 years never insured. Our home owners and auto renew July 1 So I shopped for a lower premium and changed Insurance Company and decided to include Golf Cart insurance. Well on or about June 15 12 Golf Carts were stolen in our Campground and trashed including ours keep in mind my new insurance did not start till July 1
So just to be sure I called my old agent to see if their was some kind of coverage on the Home Owners Policy and the answer was NO!
