What size is everyone running on the BFGs? I'm seriously considering having Tirerack ship a set to the dealer where my trailer is located and requesting installation before I pick it up. It has the Towmaster tires on it and the dealer claims they haven't had problems with them, I'm not willing to chance it.
Thinking I would go with the BFG Commercials in 235/85 16. Good idea?

That's what I run on my 2955. I'm thinking of putting them on my TV, too, since they are quite a bit cheaper than Michelins. Anyone run the Commercial T/A on your TV? Are they pretty quiet?

Have a look at Tirerack and the General Grabber HTS TV tires. My experience with them has been outstanding in all regards. The customer ratings are also very positive. I've got 50K on mine and they look and act as if they were put on the truck yesterday.

I had buddy ask how the BFG Commercial TA as a LT tire handles sharp turns on the side walls in comparison to ST tires. Does anybody notice a difference?

I have to make a share 90 degree turn to get in my drive way. The Mission tires left lots of black marks. BFG Commercial TA don't leave any marks. That is about the only difference I have seen on share turns. The BFG seem to run cooler also, I am real happy with them.

Tirerack is showing 235/85 16...no 235/80. I am going to go ahead and order a set and have them shipped to the dealer for installation! Price is $142 apiece...

Kingdaddy, you might want to get a price from your local dealer, as well. After you pay for the tires plus shipping and installation, you might be money ahead with your local dealer. Besides, if you have a problem down the road, you'll have a place to take them for adjustment or repair.

We priced them out at a dealer close to us, $152.00 each installed balanced. They actually where cheaper than Sams Club after you add the cost of balance. Also Sam's you had to take off the tires and take them in. I would call around and check prices.

I could be wrong (it's happened before ) but I don't think there is enough difference in O.D. to matter, especially for short term use. The Towmasters show about the same diameter even though slightly different aspect ratio (80 vs. 85)
Besides, the BFGs don't suffer failures right? (fingers crossed).

Well today I ordered the BFG Commercial TA's from Sears Automotive in Minot, ND 75 miles from us. Should be in a week or so. I probably won't be able to get them put on till April. Already feel better knowing the china bombs are going byebye!

My BFGs just survived a 1,500 mile trip down I-20 in Texas to I-10 all the way to L.A. in great shape. Glad I had them on...some pretty rough stretches in there. Had them at 80 psi cold, got up to about 90 psi running 60-65 mph and about 80 degrees ambient temp.

A good buddy of mine has been skeptical of me getting LT tires for a trailer, especially one my weight. He has an implement dealer shop and has today visited with several tire reps in the know and they strongly discourage using LT tires in the RV application with such reasons as a weaker sidewall especially with tight turning, more easily bruised than a ST, running hotter and trailer sway. The reps also stated that the tire manufacturer may not warranty a LT tire that is used with an RV. They didn't have any issues with LTs on lightweight utility trailers.

I have done months of research on the web, RV.Net and here have seen many reports of success and happiness with BFG LT and my gut tells me to go with the BFG but I really trust my buddies gut too. Any opinions?

I am going to go with the Michelin Ribs if I don't change my mind. I have read too many horror stories on ST tires from China. I have not read one bad thing about a good quality LT tire used on a rig. My only question that remains is how long am I going to roll the dice rolling on the China bombs?

Well after 2 attempts to get the tires put on only to be detoured by our many NoDak winter storms, I finally got my BFG's on. The 75 mile drive home felt smooth as silk. I really feel good knowing that I have quality tires on the Monty! Now comes the PSD, it needs new shoes too.

The Weekenders, you have to do what you're comfortable with. That said, in this forum there are many, many thousand of miles of experience with LT tires on Montanas and all indications are they are superior in performance to the ST tires. In fact, for a short time, maybe half a model year or one model year, Keystone put LT tires on the Montana.

Hopefully LonnieB will see this thread and comment. He's a tire guy with his own tire store and his opinions are very highly respected by many in this forum.

But, you should do what makes you most comfortable. By the way, we put the BFG Commercial T/A on our prior Montana and were very happy with the choice. This Montana has LT tires, also, but these are Goodyear G614 load range G (due to our weight) and these LT tires are stated by Goodyear to be designed for trailers.

By the way, I can show you pictures of problems with our ST tires including large bubbles from curb bruising. I have had none of those problems with the LT tires. These are just my opinions and experiences, though. I am not an expert in tire matters.

Steve,

We had the Mission China timebombs on and fortunatly they survived three years, one was looking pretty bad. I am thinking of getting matching BFG Commercial TA's for the PSD!
