I talked to a fellow MOCer with a gasser -- at F350. He made an interesting comment--when he needs fuel (GASOLINE) and has the Monty in tow, it is tough finding enough space around most service stations. There is always alot of room around the diesel pumps to a get the BIG RIGS into to buy 100's of gallon of diesel. Just another reason to get a diesel along with all the other reasons state above. I never realized this because I drive a diesel!

This is why I love my Auxiliary fuel tank!

Tim, When my main tank runs dry I switch to the Aux and than start looking for fuel which gives me plenty of time to shop for convenience and price. I can travel around a thousand mile between the two tanks, most of the time I can reach my destination, drop the trailer and than go fuel.

Never had a problem getting into and out of fuel stations with our 05 F-350 v-10 with the 3400 attached...
I think the question was will the 2011 Ford V-10 pull a 3295.. Answer...yes.

The GM trucks have the Allison auto trannys, so if you want an auto I would get a GM truck. If you prefer another Dodge I would get the manual transmission.

The new since 07.5 Dodges have a six speed automatic AND an exhaust brake. With the new 68RE transmission they are state of the art. I really like mine.

You can tow with either engine. Having had both, the diesel pulls hard and does not feel like it is working hard. Lots of towing, go for the diesel. Not so much towing, go with a gazzer.
The Allison tranny is outstanding. Only available on GM vehicles. Diesel or gas. I would opt for the auto unless you really like to shift manually.
Personally I would avoid anything in its first year of production. Ford's diesel and auto are new and GM is doing the same for 2011.

I was only attempting to bring up a point that another MOCer passed along about towing with a gasser--no aux. Seems that everyone else has solved that problem with the more bucks aux. or always found the open gas pumps. More power to you both. I am sticking with my DIESEL!

We never had a issue with our 05 F-350 V-10 in finding gas or getting in or out of a station, Did not have a Aux fuel tank. Did not get great MPG..7.5 sometimes 8 pulling this 3400 anchor and we choked on some big hills. The diesel pulls better. It is designed to do that.Pulls big hills better. It is designed to do that. MPG Diesel 10/11 pulling the same 3400. It would take a long time to make up the $$$ difference gas/Diesel. For our travel style the Diesel serves us better. The sound of a big V-10 screaming up a big hill..is....frightening and awesome. In 07 we are screaming up a 8750 Mt at 40mpg in the V-10. Helen is driving. She turns to me and says.." is this truck supposed to sound like this" "yes" say I... We need a diesel..she says..we got one.

O.K. I am convinced about diesel, but do you go with a 6 speed stick or automatic?

Lou,
I thought Ford came out with a six speed auto... that would be the ticket.
Bear in mind I have a 2001 F350, but I tested both... The Six speed manual was useless. First gear was so low, you wouldn't use it to start even when pulling your Monty, and sixth gear was so high you couldn't do much with it either when pull, so you end up with 4 gears. Would have been a great transmission if they had made them even space... We went with the 4 speed Auto, but wasn't happy with that either. I ended up putting in a US Gears Aux Transmission (now I have 8 forward gears and two reverse).
FYI, our first 5th wheel we had Chevy with gas engine... we got 4.5 to 5 mpg (lots of mountains), we sold it and got 1983 Ford F350 diesel and we always saw 11 mpg, even when we loaded down with 800 lbs of extra water.
