hahahahah - you guys are cracking me up.

William -

Thanks for the adds! Good observation on the pump wire. We are always so sure when we tell others how to do something, but we forget these things change. I keep telling folks the "red" wire. Now I would be wrong.

I really think the woofer got moved under the desk. JJackflash found it when tearing out his desk. My 2007 has it above the TV inside the cabinet and yours may too, but this one had nothing up there except the DVD player. The upper cabinet is actually a bad place for a woofer. I set mine on the floor and slide in a Led Zepplin 8-Track tape at full volume to finish pushing the stabilizer jacks down in the dirt after setting up.

Too bad the rear jacks are slow. I could have made them remote, but I can't do that with the drill

We did put a 2" memory foam mattress over the regular mattress, and it made a world of difference. As it is, we have to push down to get the bed under the side shelves whenever we make the bed, how do you do it with 4" Dave?

Brad, I took the shelves off. One was moved higher - wife didn't like my idea of yanking them out... The one on MY side is now a shelf above the counter next to the Apollo.

Dave, I like that idea, but it will have to be next to my Amana. My Apollo is already on a shelf, at the bottom of Lake McConaughy!

Guys if you haven't replaced the mattress yet do so go to any mattress store and order 1 to fit , skip the rd corners , its a calf king 80" long and 70" wide if i remember rite . they had to take off the bed room dr to get it in but its great now if they would make the 3400 and call it a 5400FB as that would be the rear of the 3400 and the front of the 3465sa with the full bath this would take over the industry for the full timer for sure .. think about it. sailer

Be careful on those bed sizes.....

Our new 2009 3000RK has the Deluxe King - It is 72" X 80" with rounded end corners.

Here are the specs on standard house mattresses:
Queen 60" X 80" (Most RV Queens are 60" X 76")
Standard or Eastern King 76"-78" X 80"
California King or Western King 72" X 84" (longest)

Great job on the pictures Brad. So I guess all of us "new" Monty owners owe all you "old" owners a big "THANK YOU" for providing Keystone with enough feedback to get things changed for the better in most cases, not just on the 3400's but thoughout the complete line. Brad, just in case you don't know - the hidden key holder is still in the area. It just has been moved from the window trim to the forward side panel of the chest of drawers. Just push the panel and the door pops open, complete with hooks.

DW and I are talking about a new Monty next year. Between the fall off in sales and ours being five years old, it might be the right time. Just not sure if there is enough difference between the Big Sky and the Montana to justify the difference in price. Thinking next March would be a good time.

Thanks for all your diligent work. Great pics and great narrative. Looks to me like someone from Keystone went through our "Show and Tell" at last years Rally.

We are interested in a upgrade to a 09 big sky. We still believe that the Montana is the best bang for the buck and the Big sky has upgrades and improvements that we both like. We will be looking at the new stuff and the prototypes at the fall rally..We were looking to get 5 years out of the 06 3400 using it the way we do but after 28 months we are doubtful of that. Who knows.?????

I really have to believe that Keystone listens to the feedback, or they probably would not have come up with some of these things. I don't know about the Rallies, but the reps always seem to have an ear open at the shows.

Rich, it really seams like a big portion of the features introduced by Big Sky in 2006/07 have been incorporated into the Montana, including a lot of the hidden specs (HW tank size, general tank sizes, axles, jacks, etc.). Other than fancier deco and the double fridge, I'm not sure there is too big of a gap in features anymore between the two.

Brad, I do agree with you .Helen likes the big refer in the big sky. I just do not feel that our 06 3400 is up to some of the tasks we intend to subject it to.Like a Alaska trip. The suspension needs to be beefed up..look what happened to David and Joanna's new rig on their Alaska trip. we feel we know where the weaknesses are so we will take a close look. I like the 7K axles but that alone without beefing up the rest of the suspension is useless. They do listen..no doubt about that..it is very obvious at the Fall rally.

I had 12" frame under the Cambridge and 7,000 lb axles. I believe the Cambridge should have had a bigger frame and 8,000 axles. I not sure but I think the Big Sky has a 10" frame and 7,000 lb axles. We now have 15" frame and 8,000 lb axles and have a gross caring weight of 17,500 but the Cambridge was 16,500. It puts a lot of stress on the axle area when turning and when you spot the 5er on the Rv site. I always thought that the Cambridge suspension should have been heavier. But they try to keep the weight down as much as possible. David and Joanna's rig now after the repair looks like it will handle the load a lot better and safer. GBY....

As long as the I-beam continues to be constructed with 1/8" steel, I'm not sure it makes a difference how tall it is. Beam height is directly proportional to the vertical load it is carrying. Side twist is another issue.

We want to take a close look at the work done to David and Joanna's rig. We already went with the heavy duty shackles and upgraded tires and valve stems. What happened to their Mor Ryde is a concern and those spring hangers are a concern. If the new units are not any better than the one we have there is no point in a new one. Just as soon spend the money to upgrade this one.
