Ford F250 5.8L Towing????

Hello! Barb and Larry are new to this forum, and we own a 3400RL. Our towing is mostly on level roads and highways, so we haven't had any problems with our 2002 F250SD with 5.8L V-8 so far. We get about 9 mpg average.

Right now our budget is limited, so I was looking for any means to extract more power and torque. One suggestion I heard was a chip programmer, another was a new air filter system (including inlet).

Do any of you veterans have any suggestions? We're hoping to go from central California up to northern area, and would be traveling in some mountain areas.

Check out Summit Raceing web site. They have a lot of products available to help. Call their 800 number and you can talk to someone with what you want to do and they are usually pretty good about suggestions. Two areas that always help to improve is air intake and better exhaust. I have talked to people that claim 20% in fuel economy. Not to mention better power. As I have posted in the past, I am careful about performance chips. Like any performance engine, the more power is boosted up, the more you lose in longevity of the engine. Not to say a mild performance chip is a bad thing. A little is good and after that be careful. If you have power to spare on flat land look into a overdrive unit. Try gear vendors.
