Word to the wise

As some of you know we have our Montana listed for sale. Had an out of state person contact me, and we spent the better part of 3 days, on the phone, on line and back on the phone. Was working on a transport for the unit to be hauled when in a conversation I told him, the unit would not move or even be un blocked until the check cleared the bank and the money was in my hand. Instantly, my emails were blocked, my phone calls not answered, and even has me blocked on his face book page. Scammers are out everywhere, if your selling something make sure you get your money before they get the item.

That is the big problem anymore and folks "stealing" rigs and selling those they don't own on line is a major issue.

Thanks for posting this. All too often good people get taken by scammers. This is a good caution reminder to all.

When I was selling my F250,I tried craigs list as an option. Must have had at least 6 emails from people that wanted it sight unseen, would pay asking price, will mail a check, etc: all scammers. I decided then to stay away from that site for selling anything. The second it sounds like a sure thing, start to worry.

Yes, it was from a Craigs List ad. I have used Craigs list in the past, and knew to be wary of anything that, "sounded to good to be true", but still almost caught me off guard. Seems if some people would put as much effort into an honest venture as they do scamming, they would be pretty well off. But that's just my thinking. Happy Trails everyone, Steve and Susie

I put an ad on Craig's list to sell some cemetery plots and someone emailed me to ship them and they would send me a check. Yeah, right, ship cemetery plots. There are so many scammers on that site I wouldn't recommend using them.

Hi

If you are paid by check, money order or crashers check and the bank cashiers it and as much as 90 days latter it is returned because of fraud you are still on the hook for the money.

I had a friend with an antique phone booth get hung that way with a fake cashiers check at least it was only for 7 or 8 hundred dollars but could have been more he had some high dollar items for sale.

He will now only take cash and then will not release the item until his bank tells him none of the bills are counterfeit.

Over the past 3 years we have sold numerous items on Craig's List. Almost every time I list something valued over $400.00 I get a couple scammers. Some sound a little better than others, but the bottom line is they don't want to show up with cash. A couple of them I have sent messages back to and agreed to take their bank draft or money orders but only if they would meet me at 2am at a certain location in the south end of Chicago. Sometimes I follow up with another message telling them to come alone. They never respond.
