DEF Reset

Our EMS department recently took delivery of a 2014 Ford 550 4X4 ambulance. The DEF announcement came on stating we have 500 miles left before empty. We filled the tank and it still reads the same. How do you reset it? I have tried the manuals and GOOGLE but to no avail. It has the steering wheel controls. Any help would be appreciated.

It should reset itself if you filled the DEF tank full. My owners manual states that if you only partial fill it after getting the warning msg it may take awhile before it resets itself. That doesn't seem to make sense but the first time I left my DEF get that low and then added a small amount the mgs stayed on. Once I filled the DEF the msg went off. I now check the DEF status and when it goes below 1/2 I fill it.

Recently our 500 mile DEF warning went off on our F350. We left the engine running and added one jug of DEF. The 500 mile warning did not reset. We figured that it should have elevated to at least the half tank warning, but it didn't. We drove a few miles and purchased another 2-1/2 gallon jug. This time the engine was off when we filled. The tank overflowed after adding about half the jug. When we started the engine, it reset showing a full tank. We have no idea if or why the engine running or not would have any bearing on the DEF reset, but that was our experience.

We had the same problem with our GMC 3500, found out the senors was bad and needed to be replaced. It happened again this year we put DEF in and drove and still the same message 25% left on DEF, found a dealer drove in and he found that the engine and DEF senor were not at let me see I believe he said at the same temperature, which caused the message from not going away. He reset everything and it's been working find.
