New hitch

Ordered a few F350 Ford today with all the bells and whistles. Did order the towing prep package, but not a hitch. I am looking forward to having a flat bed when not towing. Checked out previous posts and checked Tweety's for various hitches that will work (I want to sell my existing hitch with the old truck). Don't need a slider, but they vary a lot in cost-B&W the lowest and Reese the highest. Any recommendations?

I like my Curt. Q24. Nice design and will move in four directions. I can unhook at almost any angle! Built in America and excellent customer service. Just my 2 cents. Hitch's are like Bra's, personal choice you need to live with daily, and it's all about the fit!

I think Pullrite also makes a hitch to fit the Ford prep. I had a Pullrite Super 5th in my previous truck. Would have bought one for my 2012 Ford with factory prep had I known about it. Although I don't think they had it on market until sometime after I bought the truck.
Mine is the Reese Elite. Nice hitch, but was a tad expensive.

I think you will be impressed with the difference between your old 7.3/5 Speed, and that 6.7/6 Speed on your new truck. Whichever hitch you decide on, I recommend a 4-Way.

I got the Reese 25K when I bought the truck. I let my old Reese 20K go with the old truck. I really like the no bed rails hitch.

I read some thread about only one brand hitch working with the Ford prep package. Kind of takes it's use away IMHO.

I know that Reese makes an adapter for Ford and one for RAM that work with the 5W prep option. The adapter then works with just about any standard hitch. Check out their site online. I have the one for RAM and a r20K hitch. You can remove the hitch and the adapter is still there, but it's flat and adds about 2 inches height to the bed. If you want it completely flat you take out the adapter (easy) and put the plugs back in.

I'm with NCFischers and love my Reese Elite 25k. 2 piece, drops in the holes and cam locks in place. Clean bed when removed. Works for me.

I read that also, but it was followed up with the fact that there were 3 or 4 or more manufacturers making hitches that fit the Ford prep. Reese, B&W, Pullrite, Curt, and I think at least one other.

Ram came out with their factory 5th wheel hitch prep and still do not have a hitch to fit it. They have to use a "picture frame" adapter to mount a standard hitch. Although I read a couple days ago where at least one manufacturer was about to release a hitch to fit the Ram.

The Reese is what Ford prep was designed for, and can be ordered from Ford dealer. My F450 had to be modified and rails added to use my Curt , I refused to buy a new hitch! Someone on here stated in another thread, that other adapters are now available. My F450 was an early 2014 delivery and only hitch other than a Reese that could be used was the Companion BW. It uses the Fords goose neck provision.

Here are some hitches with locking pins that fit the Ford prep holes. Couldn't find a Curt that fit the Ford prep holes.

B&W Companion

Pullrite Super 5th

Reese Elite

Am also looking for hitch for my F350 with the "pucks". Forum reviews of B&W are very positive but not sure if compatible with Airborne Sidewinder Pinbox. Anybody know for sure?

I have a B&W and I don't think you can use a sidewinder with it. Call them they are very helpful.

I have had 2 Reese hitches and now a B&W 3000 Companion.

I much prefer the B&W over my previous hitches. Latches up tighter.

Note. B&W has a hitch that fits both the Ford and Ram puck mounts.

Referring to an earlier post, I think the fit of a hitch is way more important than the fit on a bra. I've heard some women complain about the fit of their bra (I'll go no further), and that should NOT happen with a hitch. It needs to fit perfectly, meet the ratings you seek, and work perfectly too (aside from an occassional operator error). Wouldn't want any slop like with a bad fitting bra.

Now that it has been brought up, got to admit I've been married to my DW for almost 47 years and never once have we discussed bra fit.

On that same note, she has never discussed my choice of hitches either.

Guess we need to sit down and have a talk?

Just made a deal on a Reese Elite 18k to fit the pucks in my F350. $1150.
Also getting an Airborne Sidewinder 19.5k for $2200 installed.
After checking out ETrailer, Tweetys and some local places I ended up buying from the dealer and am happy with the prices. Although after going back and forth a few times I finally told the parts guy that I was spending a small fortune buying the Mountaineer from them and they should be able to match the hitch shop down the street.
