crackle when walking

I have a 2007 3400 and when it's cold or cool walking by the bar there is a crackling sound. I was woundering if others have this or just mine, is there a way to stop the noise. when the temp goes up the noise stops.

Richard, we too have a 2007 3400. Depending on temperatures, all sorts of noises can happen. There is a "sweet spot" in ours that if I step just right, I can drive the DW nuts!!! The nature of the beast is.....temperature changes the "flexibility" (for want of a better word) of the rig. When cold, joints shrink up and become loose. Warmed up, they become tight. I haven't heard any "crackling" noises in ours (other than my knees) but there are plenty of pops and squeaks. Only way to stop it would be to tear things apart and put more screws in, or tighten the ones that are there. And then, after a few trips down the roads, things will loosen up yet again. There's even a possibility that they might have left a piece of protective plastic under the carpet and it's starting to get brittle. Sorry I don't have a better, or easier answer. Even our "stick house" has plenty of pops and squeaks in the floor.

Rich, snfexpress had a problem like you are describing in his bedroom. If you go here, you can see what it takes to search out and fix it:

We have it, too, by the kitchen counter. The current creak just started recently. We used to have one in the shower area but that one has disappeared, at least for now.

Steve, maybe your bathroom squeak got hungry and went to the kitchen.

We have a 2010 3150 and we just came back from our first "somewhat" long trip, and we noticed a creak by the kitchen sink.I sent our dealer an e-mail note and I plan on calling them on Thursday. We had a 1999 Golden Falcon that was built by Glendale. In 10 yrs we didn't have any creaks in the floor. I just think the RV manufacturers just don't think in terms of quality anymore. The Montana brochure identifies 5/8" seamless floor decking, so the floor shouldn't creak, but I guess if they were in too much of a rush and didn't put screws in the right places we get creaks. There is no basement under the creak area, so I'm not sure how that can be fixed. I'll let you know what the dealer tells me.

Regards,

David

Gosh Steve, I'll bet that squeak or creak by the shower had a problem and moved so it wouldn't get wet!Sure glad Vicki is there to keep you straight on where these are in your rig! I like Ron's explanation-- maybe it got hungry and headed downstairs. Could it be that the hearing is slipping away a little, my long lost brother??

We don't have one squeak in our stick home, concrete floors! Our 3400 has a squeak in front of our couch. It seems that our 2003 3295RK had a more solid floor but it had less slideouts and less floor area and was a couple feet shorter. I think that making the trailers larger and trying to keep the weight down also contributes to less solid structures.
