More, bigger, better, louder!
Well, my old J.C. Whitney dual 130 DB horn-set finally bit the dust.
So, bigger, louder, better I went.
Train horns... not the $2,000 Nathan bells, but a more modest set, still up to 160 DB, Like Larry the Cable Guy says, I don't care where you are from, that's loud! I had to get another compressor, my Harbor Freight unit broke a piston, went to get another and the cost is around $80.00, so I bought a 200# Viair; sweet...
I have a 2.5 gallon air tank, so I changed all my rubber air lines to 3/8" copper. I have had the system installed for about 3 weeks, nice, but not enough. So, I just ordered a 'stutter' horn. Ambulances have them. It is 130 D.B. I will have a switch to select which horn to play with.

I'd never get away with that in my part of the country. My old 77 Chevy pickup wouldn't pass DEQ for the liscense plates because the mufflers (which sounded SWEET!) were "1" decibel too loud.

My old friend had a BIG Pickup with train horns. Just for fun - he would give it a blast just before the car in front of him would start over railroad tracks. LOL

I love them, I am not abusing them and wouldn't get too crazy but do have fun with them.
Charlie, go forth and honk...

I love them also. I had one on my MC that was 130 db and it saved me on the freeway a few times. Wish I had put it on my second MC before that idiot pulled out and broadsided me, but the bike was new.
They are standard on the SOB.

I hope they work better than the ones on our fire trucks and squads. No one ever gets out of our way with the siren or horn! I should say used to, now that I retired.

I was in Louisville Ky 2 years ago at the fairgrounds when someone in an old pickup truck was blaring away with a train horn which I thought was pretty cool. But he wound up getting pulled over by the police. Don't know the reason why, but someone said that they are illegal. is that true.

Tim, I have seen emergency vehicles having that problem. Not around here..I have people in front of me around here, pull over if they are oncoming on a 4 lane road. You don't have to do that, do you? I never have.
Rich, It would probably be illegal to honk a stock horn without cause, I have done research on train horn sites, and they say if you don't go crazy with them, you are generally OK. (Not to say that they are legal)

Some towns/cities have rules as for as sound decimals allowed, this is where they can get you. As they say, don't ask how I know. How ever the horns can be fun and help some one not run into to you.

Like many things enforcement is selective, we have a small train ride down the road, they blast that air horn constantly all day s
Saturday and Sunday, drives me crazy when I am working in the yard. I have complained, but to no avail. When I retire again, I will take them to court if needed.
