The only reasons I know of are income taxes, property taxes, sales taxes on vehicle purchases, cost of insurance, whether or not there are required inspections, ease of establishing residency without having lived in the state or owning property there, and availability of adequate mail forwarding that understands rv'ers.
For some, past experience or family locations might play a role. I'm probably missing something but that's all I can think of. The dollar savings is substantial, by the way, if you come from a state that likes its taxes, like we did.
