Winter Storage - What Do You Unload

Hello All,

Every year at this time in Ohio the DW and I discuss what we should remove from the Monty for winter storage and we never agree. So we are inquiring from the members of the forum what do you unpack for winter. Do you remove all clothes, towels, blankets, pillows, bath room supplies, kitchen items etc. The list is endless and with the amount of items we have in our Monty it's a big job to remove it all. What do you do?

Anything that can attract mice or freeze or generally go bad due to freezing. Being from Michigan we use the dryer sheet trick for our home on Drummond Island in the winter. Buy Walmart brand lavender dryer sheets (Seem to work the best) and place them all over the camper in the drawers, cabinets on the floor in all compartments and it will help keep mice out, the more you use the better. others swear on the 5 gallon bucket and beer can trap. also the mice will find any opening and use it. Close off with wire screen the area under the LP tanks it will let the vermin in to the generator compartment and then to the under belly and in the camper, ours is closed off with hardware cloth. Seal any holes with silicone or foam in the underbelly to keep them out, mice seem to be more of an issue then anything, except maybe moisture when the spring thaw comes around but we do not seem to have any problem with that.

I take in anything that will freeze, canned goods, spices. I remove batteries from anything that is staying such as clocks, carbon monoxide detector, etc. Like Eagleback, I put dryer sheets everywhere (don't forget the outside storage), along with mothballs. I don't worry about bed linens or towels or clothes, for that matter. I've found with a copious amount of dryer sheets and mothballs, I haven't had problems with mice getting into that stuff (knock on wood).

I remove any thing that will freeze and burst and nothing that won’t. Shaving cream will freeze but it won’t burst but it will ruin. Shampoo is fine. I hook my battery to a smart trickle charger. I leave clothing and bedding. Who knows when I might wont to take a nap in my camper, like tomorrow.

We don't remove anything but we use are's all year round but I have mouse proofed it as
much as we can and installed extra insulation throughout. We do watch what we leave in
it in between trips.

Nothing - work to get out at least once a month.

I go over board and take everything out. I give it a good top to bottom clean and put dryer sheets throughout. I also remove the batteries and put a cover on it for winter storage.

Remove ALL food.
Remove all medical supplies.
Remove all liquids.
Winterize.
Disconnect batteries.
Cover.
Come back in spring.

Also in Ohio (summit county). Done the same for 14 years.
