Sliding Garbage Can installation pics

At least I can say I got one project finished completely. Pictures of the installation follow.

The unit is from Lowes, cost around $50.00 and appears to be of very good quality. Installation took about a half-hour all told. It even has a little rack on the back that the box showed as garbage bag storage. DW likes it, so Dad is happy!!

Damm! Bingo, now you got the DW all excited.
She wants me to ask you if that unit slides in both directions.
By chance do you have a model or stock number of that rack?
Thanks, Jack

It does NOT slide in both directions, sorry. It is a ClosetMaid Single Trash Bin Slider. Basket holder is chrome, 12 Gallon can, model number 3185-31. If you decide on this one in particular, be sure to allow clearance at the front for the cabinet lip. I used two washers under the rails at the front to provide a little extra height to clear the cabinet lip. Lowes has all kinds of neat sliding shelves that DW is studying intently as well. The work never ends it seems, but with these little simple projects the satisfaction of the completed job comes quickly at least.

I take it you put on that side of the sink cause it would not open on the inside??

LOOKS FAB!! I love that feature on our 3295, just TRY to take it away from me! I guarantee you will hear a lot of hissing and other sounds of angst and anger!

Actually Carol,
We have found that most of our garbage is generated either at the table (across from the garbage can) or from the living room area. We have always had our garbage can in this cabinet (we can reach it from the cabinet under the sink in the kitchen). All I did was change it to a sliding tray since we always had to pull the can out of the cabinet anyway.

Bingo that looks really neat!

If I show that to my wife she may want me to install one also.

Good job!

Thanks for the pics Bingo - I was curious what it looked like when you mentioned it. After your explanation, I think having it slide one direction would be fine with me, because I can just reach under from the sink to use it. Sliding out the other side would facilitate removal of the trash without crowding everything.

Isn't life funny. Our 2004 came with a slide out trash can. One of the first things I done was to remove it to gain a extra cabinet. DW wanted the can in the open.

bigmurf,

Just shows that we all have different "ticks" and tastes. I don't want to see that trash can out in the open, but, I know that there are a number of MOC friends that have one, and it does not bother them, and they prefer it.

BUT, DON'T TRY TO TAKE MY SLIDER TRASH CAN THINGY AWAY FROM ME!

Our 06 3475 came with a slider for the trash can and we really like it. This looks great as you have done a good job and I can some changes for some soon. We like ours thats for sure.

We did ours about a year and a half ago, put it to the inside: so we could put a shelf in the cabinet for extra room.
Nice work on yours...

I NOTICED YESTERDAY THAT COSTCO IN PHOENIX HAS ALMOST THE SAME ITEM FOR LESS THAN $25.00. I DO NOT REMEMBER THE SIZE OF THE BASKET SO IT MAY BE TOO LARGE. I WILL LOOK AGAIN TODAY AND GET THE SPECS. IT MAY BE AVAILABLE ON LINE VIA COSTCO.

I CHECKED AT COSTCO, AND IT IS A 32 QT WASTEPAPER BASKET ON A SLIDE OUT FOR $22.99. NOT AVAILABLE ON LINE. HOME DEPOT HAD ANOTHER ONE THAT DID NOT LOOK AS NICE AS THE ONE INSTALLED ON THIS SITE. THE COST WAS $28.00 WITHOUT A WASTEPAPER BASKET.
