Mission Tires Are Coming Off
Well, thanks to the grace of the universe we dodged a blown tire today. Just as we were ready to pull out of the campground (Lone Pine in Colchester, VT) a young man who was behind us told Bob he noticed a bulge on the inside of one of the trailer tires. Lo and behold - a HUGE bulge and very uneven wear on the tire. We check the tires regularly and don't know how we missed this, but we did. We pulled around on a side road in the CG and went about changing the tire. Bob of the CG came by on his cart and came back a minute later with a big jack and helped change the tire, then he proceeded to get on the phone and locate new tires for us. I have worried about the Mission tires ever since we adopted Betty Big Sky, so we're getting new Kelly-Springfield tires tomorrow. FYI, we have always kept the Missions at 80 psi, Bob checks them regularly and we still had the problem.

Glad you caught this before doing serious damage to the side of your rig.
How many miles did you have on them?

Dave, I'm not sure how many miles they had before we started pulling, but I think about 4,000, and we've put 3,338 on them. So, a total of about 7,338. Stinky, huh, that we had tire failure after that little bit.

Had to replace all 5 Missions with around 10,000 miles on ours. Tread separation. Fortunately caught each one before they did any additional damage.

Dave mine started going out around 12K. They replaced all 5 with a different China tire. we'll see how these do. At the first sign of trouble with these I will be going to the G614 Good Year.

We had no problems with our Missions and they all looked good ...BUT..we changed them out at @10K miles. Did not want to tempt fate.

It is a shame that you can only get 5-10K miles on a set of Missions. What was Keystone thinking putting such cheap rubber under such a nice 5th wheel?

This past June, we lost the tread on one of or Missions somewhere between Ludlow and Barstow, CA. Not too much damage except to the accordian doo-hickey that the cables are attached to on the kitchen slide. We changed the tire and limped on into Bakersfield. 4 new tires later (not Missions) we were on the road again. We had around 8k miles on the missions. Rats! Phooey! (AND) @#$%&*!!! $650 that we forgot to budget for.

Glad you caught it in time. Didn't have any problem with mine, but changed them out at a little over 5,000 miles for peace of mind.

Our Missions are in the barn waiting for Tireco. With the help of LonnieB we replaced all 5 tires with Bridgestone Duravis 500HD's (LT's). The difference to a novice is very noticeable in construction and beefier. I plan to file for all 5 even tho they are not all bulging. Caught ours in our yard from personal inspection so no rig damage.
It's very unfortunate that we only got about 7-8K miles on them.

Almost need a camera under the rig to monitor the tires. Bulges don't show up in the tire press/temp monitors...
Brad (lasater), you need to update your signature pic to your 2008 3075. Nice pic, though.

At least you got to remove them all, we weren't so lucky, the one that removed itself left a fair mess behind as you probably saw at the NE rally. If you missed it you can see it again at the Fall Rally in Goshen. I just wish the tire had killed itself closer to civilization than Key West. What should have been a 650.00 fix cost us 900.00 for the tires and damage estimates ranged from 2400.00 to 3400.00. We get to visit camp Keystone on the 28th of Sept... Dave

Got four new tires today at Vermont Tire Co. in South Burlington, VT. Great bunch of guys. We left all the Missions (maybe they're named Mission because we all need to get down on our knees and say a prayer before we hit the road) there since we have no way of storing them, but we did take pics of the damaged tire in case we decide to take it further. The replacement tires are MAX24, ST235/8016, Tomax Rad STR BW E (10 ply). I hope they turn out to be good ones.

Dave, have you considered filing suit against Mission for your deductible and any other out of pocket expenses? You might be able to collect under product liability laws.

Good for you. My Missions lasted less than 3000 miles. Blew one had a bubble in a scond one on the same axle. Changed to Firestone and so far so good. Glad the problem was caught in time.

Actually, Tireco offered to pay for our damages (at least they said they would). They did want three appraisals though. We were fortunate to not suffer much damage, so I didn't bother with it. BTW, don't consider this a pat on the back for Tireco. I despise them.
