Northeast Trip Part 1
Hey guys and girls, am working on a trip this fall up through Canada and then back down through the New England states. Part 1 will include stops in Cleveland, Niagara Falls, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec City. Any suggestions regarding campgrounds, things to see, places to eat, or anything else will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Do you plan on coming home straight down from NY or possibility of going a bit further east first? I can think of a few spots in Niantic and Mystic CT area. Maybe take the ferry over from New London to Orient Point on Long Island and do the wine trail. Good grapes, awesome wine.

Hey Tom, from QC we are heading up to PEI, the Nova Scotia and then work our way back home down the east coast.

I can recommend a campground in the Toronto area. It is called Glen Rouge and is in Pickering. It is close to a GO station, where you can catch a train downtown. You will need to reserve a site ahead though. They have some 50 amp sites.

Definitely in Chattanooga, but with CGs closing in September? Thanks Loneoak for the recommendation/confirmation, that was my chosen CG for the Toronto stop. Also was looking at Indian Line, but with a long drive to Montreal Glen Rouge gets me a little closer.

Most campgrounds close around Canadian Thanksgiving, which is the second Monday in October.

We will be in Nova Scotia until late September. Thought I had seen some closing end of September, but may wrong. Either way, we will be slowly heading back south by then. I do appreciate any additional input/recommendations. Thanks again.

It’s best to check the individual campgrounds.
Regarding Glen Rouge, try to find out when reservations open. I would call them. Then book the first chance you are able to. There are usually some empty sites when we are there, but if you want a specific site (we like site 25), then you need to book early. Not all sites are large enough for big trailers.
If you see the word "Hydro" in Ontario, it means electricity. It comes from the term "Hydro Electric Power", as in power derived from water (eg., Niagara Falls). I wish they would not do that, as it is confusing to people in the U.S., who equate the word hydro with water (which makes sense).

In 2007 I went thru Cleveland. Stop at the Rock and Roll Hall of fame (not on a football or baseball home game tho.. ugh). Also stayed in Niagara Falls Canadian side at the Campparks Resorts Best Holiday (I think). It was pretty good place to explore from. There is a hotel/casino overlooking the Falls that has a nice restaurant (I think it rotated) with a nice view.
I would also recommend stopping at Bar Harbor, Maine. Acadia National Park there and lots of touristy places to eat, but my wife at at the lobster huts 4 days in a row!! Have fun.

I'm planning on making reservations in the next week or so. Yes, it took me a few minutes to understand the "hydro" besides the 30A. But I live in TVA country (actually retired from them) and is was founded on hydro generation.

Thanks Tom and Gail, we are staying in Bar Harbor on our way back south. I may try to break Gail's lobster record!

We made that trip several years ago. DW loved Thousand Islands not far from Niagara Falls.
We entered Canada at Port Huron, Michigan and went across Canada to Nova Scotia. It was late September and only had one camp ground that was closing the next week.
Don’t miss Arcadia National Park in Maine. Great trip. Think I enjoyed it more than western trip.

Entering Canada at Port Huron, I assume you stayed on the Canada side at Thousand Islands?

Yes we did. Don’t remember the name but had fifty in the name. Could also see CNN tower.

I could recommend Hadleys' Point Campground in Bar Harbor. Nice sites, welcoming staff, nice laundry facilities, and there is a shuttle to downtown every day, several times a day! Let them do the driving! Don't miss Cadillac mountain!

Also when we were in the area, you could go on a big sailing ship cruise ($$$ I think). The view from the Acadia campground was nice too (up on a cliff).

Yep, that's where we are staying! I like the shuttle! I will check Cadillac Mountian, haven't heard of it. Thanks

For Thousand Islands, we stayed at Wellesley Island NY state park, on the US side of the Thousand Island bridge to Canada. Very nice place and a lot less than the commercial parks. When we stayed the third week of September it was almost empty. I think they closed the following week.
