Favorite Campground above 6,500'
Hello All,
We try and escape the summer heat by going to higher altitudes. The last 3 years we have gone to Taylor Park in Colorado. 9,400' We are now considering a different area.
Maybe something in New Mexico, Wyoming, Montana? Or a different place in Colorado.
Jim

Vallecito or Blue Spruce near Bayfield, Co. 7500', no heat/humidity. ATV trails galore.

How about Union Pass Wy. It is just north of Dubois. There are no campgrounds up there but plenty of places to camp. It is from 9200 to 9700 feet high and was 33 or 34 degrees up there two weeks ago when I was up there. I think it is the prettiest place in Wyoming.

We like Winding River Resort just outside the west entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park in Grand Lake, CO at 8200'. Only 2 hours from Denver.

We like Blue Spruce, near Valecito Lake, and Meuller State Park. Over the years Meuller has become one of our must have campgrounds.

If you want to get high (alt wise) give the Town Park in Telluride CO. a try. but you are limited. Nothing bigger than 30'. No hook-ups and no dump station. I believe the park sets at the upper end of town if I remember right think 9000' + and there are limited spaces. but it is a neat place to visit. We were there with a SOB camper years ago. Kind of a narrow steep winding road to get there but fun.

There is a campground 2 miles from our stick home, Western Ridge, in Livermore, Colorado. It is about 7,000 feet, away from traffic, has a restaurant, pool, full hookups and is in close proximity to hiking and fishing. In addition, the owners were very helpful to the community, offering free/reduced rates to residents that were displaced by the High Park Fire two years ago. We stayed there during that time. Hope this helps.

Just got back from a 1 week stay at Lottis Creek on the Taylor river. All new National Forest site. We had a spot with 50 amp in the Baldy Loop. VERY nice. Had good potable water for fresh tank fill up at several locations. No dump facility on site but very clean new pit toilets. Good fishing within 1 mile of campsite.
I agree with Mueller state park as a premium choice. It's within 1 hour of our house in Colorado Springs.
