The Best Fifth Wheel Hitch?
The title says it all; we're getting a new truck and so going to outfit it with a new hitch. I realize these range from very expensive and fancy to basic and less expensive but I was wondering what some opinions might be?

If you have a short bed pickup, the Pullrite Superglide is the only one I know of that AUTOMATICALLY slides back when cornering. Others require you to get out and manually slide the hitch back. Again, that is only what I think - others may know of different hitches.
However, the company is very good about service. It is rather expensive tho. Around $1000-1200 without mounting kit which is probably a few hundred and you have labor to install the brackets in the pickup.

I have only had long beds. Had a Pullrite Super 5th in the previous truck. Have a Reese Elite in the current truck. Pleased with both. Both have a wrap around latch mechanism that encircles the king pin. B&W and Curt are also liked by those who have them. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the latest name brand hitches.
Andersen hitches have become popular recently. They are not gooseneck, but do have an adapter for a ball type hitch connection. Many have reported being very happy with them. But there have also been some recent reports of some bed damage and some pin box damage. So I am not convinced of that one yet. Pullrite also has a somewhat similar hitch to the Andersen.

A lot of us use the B&W but I think what you are going to find is everybody thinks theirs is the best. Look around compare and pick the one you like. Any of them will do the job

There are a lot of good choices out there. We use a Curt 20K hitch and have been very happy with it.

Short bed TV: Pullrite Superglide
Long bed TV: B&W Companion

We just changed hitches, were looking at an Air Ride, but wasn't thrilled with air bag design. Then met the man who designed the Hensley Air Hitch, since his non-compete contract was up, he has designed the Comfort Ride hitch. Similar to an air hitch, but uses custom cellular bumpers that will compress to absort road shock, added or removing bumpers depending on your pin weight. We've put on a little over 6000 miles since the change and 110% improvement in ride and comfort.

I searched high and low, and wanted the beefiest hitch I could find for my long bed truck, and I also wanted it made in AMERICA, so that is why I chose a B&W 25,000 lb. hitch. It is totally up to you and what your preferences are.

Not completely; sometimes people will point out pros and cons about equipment they own. For instance, looking through some old posts, I recently read about one hitch that was noisy.
Over the many years of using this forum, I have learned an awful lot!

We are just mess'in with ya Wayne  Yes there is features of some hitches that people like for me I like simple just pull one lever out back truck up into hitch then put pin in.... Done and of course all of us like a pivoting head

That is what I went with. After 3 Reese hitches over the years, wanted something else. Their products and customer service are outstanding.
Realize, the hitch and head are heavy, and while the thought of "just lifting it out" would be great for a 30 yr old weight lifter, my 70+ year old back just leaves it in place.

Had a B&W 18K installed in my new truck, it is way better than the Reese 16K I had in my other truck. No clunking with this one.

We had the Reese 16K for 8 years and it served us well with never a problem. We switched to the trailersaver 18K BD3 in a attempt to relieve the stress on the front of the Montana. The BD3 gives a smoother ride than the Reese.
