Jack Placement for Tire Repair
We are camping and noticed a nail in the tire and very low air pressure. Does the jack go on the frame as near to the shackle as possible.
Thanks

I like to have jack under axle where it connects to spring.

put it under the axle near the springs, that is were all the weight is. It won't bend the axle(pipe) as some thinkit might.

I don't have the manual with me at this time, but it states in the manual where to place the jack.

Bottle jack under the axle where the u-bolts attach the spring to the axle. Any other way can cause serious problems.

I remember reading somewhere in my manuals to first jack up the frame exactly where you said ,close to the spring hanger than place support in that area such as a jack stand and than jack up the axle close to the springs.

I second this procedure.
That is where I place the Jack to place my unit on Blocks when we are parked for months at a time.

Hey I have that too but have never used (thank goodness), have you used yours to change a tire yet? If so did it get high enough to change the bad tire and was it hard to pull the trailer up on to the gizmo?
Thanks

This looks like a great idea, but my 12 ton bottle jack only cost 24.95 and I can use it for whatever......

Seems I read somewhere that this procedure was not a good idea since it placed the entire weight of that side of the trailer on one axle/tire. No?

I have not used it yet but I will if needed..as far as putting all the weight on the "chock" , you are only putting SOME of the weight on it, also you aren't getting under it so I feel its worth a try...the "chock" is reinforced under it and NOT empty on the underside of it. says rated for 6 tons, fits Montana bill.
also way cheaper here than c-world

What I meant was the weight of half the trailer was on one of the trailer's axles and wheels rather than on two axles and two wheels...wasn't talking about the chock.

Oh....well for the time it takes to change a tire probably wouldn't do any damage....I never liked putting a jack under u-bolt or axle, just seems the slightest move would cause jack to pop off.
my trailer gets ALOT more damage[abuse] going thru New york on 95. I will positively let you all know if the chock thing is any good soon as I use it.
PS. SPRING HERE YET???????????

I'm not sure the drive on blocks will work with the MOR-RYDE suspension. This suspension "travels" more vertically than a standard suspension, meaning the good tire would have to be considerably high in order to get the bad tire off the ground. Maybe they are taller than they look in the picture.
