Running boards

Our 2004 silverado came with the stainless steel running bars but the rubber inserts to step on to climb into the drivers seat are in the wrong place, too far forward. Does anyone know where I can get some flat step treads with u-bolts that will mount on these so my wife can enter the cab better.

I have gone through three pairs of "nerf bar" running boards on my truck for the same reason. I ended up with the Westin Platinum series and they are about as good as it is going to get. I like the look, but your correct the step placement on all three brands I tried was not the best. Good luck, I am sure someone will be along soon to give you more ideas.

This might be really dumb, but is it possible that the steps were installed on the wrong sides? This might account for the wrong placement of the rubber inserts. I have a set of black ones, and it was possible to put them on wrong.

I have a set of ICI's on my Silverado, and they line up with getting in.

Mine are westins. They look like the step would be at least four inches further back if they switched sides and that would be better than where they are. Are these things welded on or can I switch sides with a good wrench, etc.?

The Westin boards are bolted to the cab using the cab mount bolts. I had the dealership install all three pairs and never really asked if they could be installed backwards. The first ones were Smittybilt, and the second and third were Westin boards. Keep us posted.

We just had wheel to wheel westins installed on our 2005 Silverado. everything seems perfect (at least for us) for getting in and out. My husband (Paul) says that he thinks that maybe they could be mounted on the wrong side i.e. the left one on the right side. Or he said they may be Ford or Dodge ones put on the Chevy and that may make a difference.

Yep.
They was on the wrong side. I wrench and 30 minutes and I switched sides. Now they are 4 inches farhther back and aligned nuch better with where you need them (at least where momma needs them). Thanks agin to advice from MOC members.

I have got the Westin Platnium, and they line up great on my truck. Might want to check and see you have them installed on the right side, if they are backwards, the steps wont line up. The rubber should be just about in the middle of the door when closed.

We have flat running boards on our truck but it was so long ago I have no idea what brand. The truck folder is in the Monty and we are in our stick home in So.Cal. right now. Ours have lights in the sides which looks really sharp when driving at night. The flat ones work better for stepping up on which is important if your behind is lower than the truck seat.
