Does anyone use the two inch reciever hitch in the back to support a bike rack? We have two light weight bikes and I'm looking at a hitch to fit into the rear 2 inch receiver. Good idea or bad???????????

It will definitely work for that. But they will bounce quite a bit back there. Some have mounted a rack on their hitch in the front. I carried bikes in the back of our older 5er for years without issue. You just have to make sure they are well secured. The bouncing won't hurt them.

We carry 2 bikes on our platform at the rear of our 330. It is not a regular bike rack, its one of those carrier type tray fixtures. When we load the bikes, I zip tie the wheels to the rack itself along with the top to a bar that I fabricated that is straight up in the center. I will try to follow up with some pics, but my point is, there is little to no additional movement on the platform, (hitch) than what is already there. The bikes are tight, as there is a lot of bounce.

The extender was needed to clear the ladder on our Legacy rear cap. The anti-rattle device did exactly what it says; took all of the rattle out of the extension.

I'll need a few trips before I can attest to performing as I expect it will.

It’ll work just fine for bikes. Make sure the rack is all 2” tube steel, not reduced at any point. Look for less features such as raises and lowers, since all this moving features just make the rack move a lot while traveling. Sometimes the RV rated hitches aren’t what they are cracked up to be. But is a nice rating, I guess. Also, invest in a $10-20 hitch stabilizer / anti rattle device. Our rack is as solid as a rock and doesn’t move one bit. Do a search on here, there are numerous bike rack posts. Good luck.

We have a Hollywood Racks RV1700 being delivered to our next camground tomorrow. Will be carrying our 2 fat tire E-bikes at 60 lbs each. Will post installed photos and report once we travel with it a bit.

First 3 hour trip worked fine, watching via camera appeared rock steady.

Since the photo above we slid the bikes together a bit more to better expose the taillights and I added a tag holder with light (used a flat 4 trailer plug to hitch for the light). There is a bit of a flange that I was able to use to mount the tag holder. We use this cover, which seems to do very well:

We're using a Swagman bike rack for two E-bike beach cruisers, which was recommended by the bike manufacturer. The bike closest to the trailer, I turn the bars so it will not touch the trailer. The bikes do not touch the ladder either.

We have used a bike rack with ours, as well as a cargo tray sometimes when needed. Usually we have our kayak rack mounted back there. Never had a problem. Always have considered how much things bounce around and check the load whenever we stop.

We had a 2016 Legacy that came with 1 7/8” receiver coupled with a swagman bike rack. Let me tell you this.... watching that thing bounce through the rear view camera sent my stress level through the roof. So much so that I had the receiver reinforced twice in attempt to at least reduce the bounce.... No such luck, my heart couldn’t take it after a surprise pothole cause a serious bend in the receiver tube. Needless to say, if I didn’t make a habit of turning the handle bars 90 degrees (in line with the bike frame), I probably would have cracked the fibreglass end cap.

Fast forward to our new Montana and the upgraded 2’’ receiver, it is sooo much stronger. So much so that we have next to no bounce. Night and day compared to the 2016.

I just purchased a Yakima bike rack to use with the 2 inch receiver. It is rated for RV/fifth wheel use. It is the Yakima long haul rack for 4 bikes. It is has outstanding quality and is very secure. I believe that I paid 3 to 4 hundred dollars for the rack, but I was willing to spend the extra dollars for a high quality rack that keeps my bikes safe. Why get a low quality rack for bikes that cost many thousands of dollars.

There a few manufactures that make anti rattle clamps to steady the receive hitch. You might look into them.

Thule Range......made for RV's. I carry two bikes on my rack on the back of High Country 331RL. The rack doesn't move with about 80lbs on it. Only thing I use beyond the rack itself is a few bungee cords to keep the front tires from moving.

Hi guys, now that you’ve had the bike rack and cover for some time. How’s it holding up? I’m in the process of trying to find a bike rack and cover, this one sounds pretty good. Looking to purchase two Lectric ebikes they weigh about 64lbs each with 3” fat tires. Also any problem with seeing your taillights?

We have a 2021 3231 CK with legacy package I believe you have the same receiver on the back of your 5th wheel rated for 3000lbs.

We have used the Hollywood Racks RV1700 for almost a year now with 2 RAD ebikes. It is a beast to attach to the rig but solid as a rock.

We use the Hollywood Rider RV Rider HR1700 but had to buy the longer shank to clear the fiberglass rear of our 3121RL Legacy. Only issue we've had was inserting the shank into the receiver - tbere was about an 1/8 inch "puddle" of paint inside the receiver which took some serious effort to dig out (more hardener than paint?). Works great though. Recommend watching the video on loading the bikes too.
