Ice Maker RV fridge

Hi all,

We have always had RV fridges in our 5th wheels, and have again in our new Montana. (We boondock a lot...)
The biggest thing we miss from our fridge at home is the automatic ice maker.

Has anyone got experiences to share about automatic ice makers for RV fridges?
Any counter top ones that work well?
...or maybe I just need to be more organized and fill more trays?

Anyway, I thought to throw this out there as this group really has a lot of experience. Thanks in advance!

Brad

I have read some reports that some(??) counter top ice makers work very well. Don't know brands. Seems that may be the way to go.

We have used a counter top ice maker for years. Note: the key word here is Maker, not Keeper. You do have to store the ice in the freezer to harden them. We try to keep an adequate supply in the freezer at all times and refill the bag when it gets low.

There seems to be two sizes: a 9 cube maker and a 12 cube maker. Prices range for $90 to $300. Based on the schematics pasted on the back, all of them seem to be made by one place in China. We wouldn't be without one today. It is jut too handy.

Awesome, thanks Carl n Susan!
I was worried they may not be worth the trouble but I will pick one up.

I would highly recommend an icemaker. They come in various sizes depending on your ice usage. Years ago we bought a Dometic that made 28 lbs. a day if I recall. It was fairly large so we kept it beside the table on the floor where one of the chairs went. It died and they had discontinued it. I ordered a Newair from Amazon that was built identical to the Dometic and has served us well.
