Sewer Cap Too Tight ----try this (i'm so smart)

Sometime my Sewer Cap is so tight i need two hands to remove... this last time i needed a large pliers.

So i was about to weld a metal bar into a round shape when i discovered an old oil filter wrench i don't use.

by cutting off the tip of the wrench (see photo) the angle fits perfectly against the plastic tit and removal is very easy....

I checked and found it is still made and available at of all places..... Amazon
or your local auto parts store .

After trying a filter wrench, I put a pair of 16" slip-jaw pliers in the basement and find it useful for sewage line connections and many other things like the screw in plugs at the campground connection.

I use a light coating of white grease on the seal and sticking is no longer a problem.

I gave up on bayonet mounts years ago, too problematic, now I use a cam lock mount. I think the RV industry is the only industry still using bayonet mounts. A cam lock is simple compression, no twisting which eventually wears out the O rings and leaks. Plus, the cam lock is easy on and easy off. Well worth the initial cost in my view.

I have two sets as the Valtera twist on valve rotates when I remove the cap. They are great additions to the toolbox.

Drill a small hole on each side of the Valtera where it twits onto the trailer discharge pipe in install a stainless steel screw in both holes. The Valtera valve can't twist off.

jnell44,
Would like to see how you used them. Which fittings you used.
Pictures would be great.

Send a message via AIM to northern lights
"I use a cap like this and no need for pliers or whatever"
That will work great unless you have the cap stuck on a Valterra screw on on/off valve attached to the end of the sewer line and the whole thing comes off with the cap still attached. A little lubricant just on the cap works just fine.
I don't want to screw the Valterra valve on because it would probably be hit by flying gators from a blown tire & take out the entire drain pipe.

It's simply a flip of the levers.

I like this!
Do you have any info on the products you've used?
I've seen this lots on commercial tankers, but if you have any info on the specific parts that are compatible to the RV systems, that would be very helpful!

I also have switched to the cam lock type. Sometimes when elevation changes, they have vacuum that’s hard to open

You take your valve off when on the road?
