Awning Height

I have to reach up with an ax to get our awning. I always leave it out anchored down. Don't get enough shade most of the day other wise.

I don't like the electric awning either. I had an older Cougar with a manual awning that was much more convenient to adjust. On the Montana the friction knobs don't do a very good job holding the awning. I usually attach tie downs to the roller and stake it to the desired angle. I can get away with a folding step stool to reach the friction knobs (I'm 5'9")

We added a Sun Blocker to ours (https://www.carefreeofcolorado.com/p...deblocker.html) with the longer 3 foot permanent top flap which goes a long way towards increasing the shace even without zipping the bottom on. We also added the optional end flap for some more added privacy , especially when at out seasonal site which is at the end of the row, facing a road

I did this too with the two piece sun blocker. I thought I had the high awning just to clear the dinette slide but it seems it's the standard now. That's not good.

Right. We had a REDWOOD that didn’t need reset every time. Poor system as mine failed when I tried to put both in at same time. Blew fuse. Can only do one at time tech told me.

Cannot remember awnings farther back than my 2019 but the 2022 is the same~~ straight out,,, a boat hook to reach the end, then pull down one corner for water run off or both to install the screen. Often the knob will not hold so a doggie stake and tie down.
No ladders as these old legs are bad and old bones take too long to heal.

Are people not aware that if your awning has a gas spring in it, that you do not need to pull one end down to drain the water off? They tip and dump automatically. That's what the gas spring is in there for.

Our last Montana and our Jayco have always been level, and drain water without any issues...

Yes my last 3 at least had auto dump. I like to pick the direction so near the door stays dry.

We like to tip ours for shade. The tool allows you to tighten the knob so it stays.

I've also seen the un-expecting person get a shower when it dumps.
I agree, prefer to control which way the water goes.

All valid points on the determining which way to make the water dump. I for one am glad that they do auto dump, because they are a LONG way up there to adjust, tool or not.

I think on our 2021 Jayco, all we have to do is pull down the bottom beam to get it tilt. I haven't tested that, but it wasn't too hard to do on my daughter's Sportsman that they had. I should probably at least test it some time.

One thing that is NICE though about the high awnings is that they don't hit your door. We had an older 5er that the door would hit the awning when opened...
