Slide Question

2010 Montana 3400RL. This is a preemptive question. I’ve got hydraulic slides and I was wondering how to close or open them manually. Never had it happen, just want to be prepared..
Thanks

From the Files Section, the LCI Hydraulic Through Frame Slideout manual Page 18
Source: http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...?do=file&id=23

Manual Override
The Lippert Hydraulic Slideout System can be run with auxiliary power devices like electric drills, ratchet wrenches or cordless screwdrivers. In the event of electrical or system failure, this manual method of extending and retracting the slideout room can be used. A standard hand-held drill is all that is required. A standard 38" room will take approximately 45 seconds to retract. See the instructions below.
1. Remove protective label (Fig. 1).
2. Using a standard hex bit, insert into auxiliary drive device (cordless drill, screwdriver, or ratchet wrench).
3. Insert hex bit into coupler found under protective label (Fig. 2).
4. Run drill forward or clockwise to extend slideout room and in reverse or counterclockwise to retract slideout room.

But if the hydraulic pump is shot, can you manually retract the slides by turning the gears somehow? Guess I have my own answer tho - our bedroom has no gears visible. So what do we do?

I'm guessing open the valve to that hyd actuator and push the slides in and out by hand????
I'm guessing you would also need to manually secure the slides before driving to prevent them from opening while driving.

Even though the slides have rack and pinion gears, the slides are actually operated by a hydraulic push/pull cylinder. I think the gears only serve to make both sides of a slide move in sync. And it is near impossible to overcome the resistance of a hydraulic cylinder that is not working via the pump. You would need to open a port for the oil to drain from the cylinder as it moved, either back into the tank or out of the system. Or disconnect that cylinder.

Fortunately, while the motor and/or electrical part of the system sometimes fails, I can't remember a post at all of actually pump mechanical failure. Maybe a gear failure between the motor and pump. And while the Lippert manual discribes what to do in case of a motor failure, I have never found anything in any information of moving the slides in the event of a pump mechanical failure.

Page 10 shows good detail of a slide.

Thanks everyone for the information.. Should this happen to me I think I can now handle it. If I remember to put the tools I need in the tool box.
