I would Not consider moving to WA and the 3 counties around Seattle for vehicle registrations. Tabs for cars are based on the MSRP and do not decrease with age. This RT tax is not applied to other counties outside the zone to build an antiquated train system 30 years from now. My truck with commercial plates and trailer did get a break from the tax, but a $40K car is about $500 for just tax and a Tesla or high end auto would be double.

There's gotta be someone from NV out there. No income tax in NV sounds real good and lots of fly fishing near Tahoe area.
I’m in Nevada and haven’t had plates on my Monty since I got my new one in 2016 (it’s a 2017). I only move it twice a year as it’s our cabin on a lake for the summer so I’ve been getting movement permits. I was going to get plates this year and it would have been a little over a grand. Needless to say I got a movement permit. It isn’t cheap in NV. On the other hand there’s no income tax and the cost of living is way less than CA.

Montana Man, There is nothing in Verdi, but at least you are away from the crime in Reno. You are just in Nevada, and are right near Cabela's :-) You are only about 15 minutes from the major shopping in Reno. There is not a lot of green since you are on the lee side of the mountains, but you will get to see the snow covered Sierras out your windows!

When i moved to Nevada in 76, the cost to register a car was 25.00. No matter make, color or the year. Californians have moved here. They get into politics and rape us..THE STATE of Nevada makes more on a vehicle than the Dealer and the company who built it combined... Crooks!.

Not In Indiana

Indiana will cost you a fortune . I believe the use MSRP for valuation Our 2018 Montana was $1100 year 1 , add 2014 truck for almost another $500 and best to find another state if you can Lol

Send a message via AIM to BiggarView
Illinois $101 for the truck, $50 for a fiver over 10,000 lbs, no state income tax on SSA or pensions, sales tax 6.25% (average when city sales tax added 8.19%) gas and diesel tend to be expensive though. Property taxes are high too.

I find this very interesting, as the renewal on our ‘05 Monte never changes, and I have been arguing this with the Colorado dmv several different times now?

Thanks to jetskier for providing the nv dmv calculator link. After adding up all my dmv bills nv was less expensive overall by $230. That amount gets closer to $300 assuming nv has no smog checks. My trailers were more, the cars were less.

Thanks to all for your input.

I’d like to know after all taxes have been paid, sales, person properly, and all the rest where is the most expensive and least expensive place to buy and own a vehicle and camper.
Sure we can quote one expense either high or low but that isn’t the total cost in taxes. So what is the total cost. Here in Virginia personal property tax varies form county to county. What applies in one county doesn’t apply in the next county.

Have a home in California. Truck was going to be over $800 for one year.
Took it to my place in Oregon. About $275 for 2 years.
We’re heading as we talk to Fairbanks Alaska. Working summer there the nexts 4 years until I retire. No state tax. And get this. After 65 if I recall. Anything you have in your name is free registration with dmv . Happy times

I have been searching getting some property in Wyoming, their DMV fees seem like they are 2 fold, a percentage of the vehicle MSRP and then the state fee.. is that correct?

Not sure if anyone here is from Wyoming, and would like to share. My DMV fees in Ca this year is 676 for the Month and 800 for the truck OUCH !!! just wondering where it would fall in Wyoming. Thank you

Tony

Theunz is right, every state is going to get us, one way or another.
Oregon has become Northern California these days. Vehicle tag renewals have gone up since the days of $40 every two years.

Renewal tags for cars now range from $112 to $172, depending on what county you reside in and also what county the vehicle stays in. ...ridiculous!

Travel Trailer tag renewal fees depends on the length, for 39' it is $276.75 for two years.

Motor homes are more, a 39 footer is 343.50 for two years.

It wouldn't be so bad paying DMV fees if they used the money for what it's intended. I don't see much road improvement with the increases in fuel prices and DMV increases. Oakland is spending some of the money to keep street lights on. That way you will be able to see the pot holes better LOL i think.

GregL: I believe Florida Dept Motor Vehicle only charges for annual license tag renewal. Other than the title fee and license tag, I don't remember paying DMV anything else. The DMV site will give you all your vehicle fees/tag prices.
