Truck repairs

got some black spots on our pavers here in Florida. Our local Ford dealer took a look and says front and rear seals. Truck has 71K miles and this is the first what I will call major issue. Covered under the Ford ESP and appointment for next week. This has been a very good truck.

I have traditionally not been a big fan of ESPs as they have rarely paid for themselves for me. But with the costs of repairs so high now I am slowly turning around. In fact, I just bought the 7 yr/100,000 Premium Care Ford ESP today for my truck.

Mine is the premium ESP as well. The cost of this repair will cost me 100.00 in deductible.

Do a search for Ford ESP. There are several Ford dealers that sell Ford ESP plans on line and will probably be much lower than your local dealer first quotes. But print out the on line dealer's numbers and take it to your local dealer and see he can match it, or at least get close. Troy Ford advertised the 7/100,000 premium plan at $1,970 after a $300 rebate. Local dealer said that was below his costs. But he did offer to sell it go me at his cost, a couple hundred higher. I decided to just buy it from him as I do a lot of business with him and really wanted to do it face to face.

Doesn't take much over 7 years of use with repair costs to eat up the that premium plus more dollars compared to the price you paid for ESP.

Shop around cause they all sell them at different rates....keep searching on the internet and you find one cheaper then the others and they are the same plans....paid $1800 for mine but its a Dodge, I forget the dealer, I think it was in Miss. but it is a Mopar warranty

Yes do shop around I did that then presented the lowest price to my local dealer and they accepted it. It does not take much to eat up 2K on a Diesel truck.

rule of thumb still is not to buy an extended warranty....but, each to their own.

Just to add to answers you have already received, I ended up getting mine from the Ford dealership in Troy, Ohio. He was $1,900 for the ESP 7/100,000 with $100 deductible and car rental. My selling dealer wanted over $3,000 and a Ford dealer where I was getting my truck serviced at the time in Ft. Myers wanted over $3,700 for same warranty!

When I contacted the Troy dealership it was easy. The only thing they had to do was verify my exact mileage, which was easy because I had just had my truck serviced at a Ford dealership and it was in the system.

yes Joe ours was about that same number at our Local Ford Dealer in Ohio after shopping around and getting numbers like you got. We have all our maint both routine and corrective done at Ford Dealerships and recorded on 'My Ford" It makes it a lot easier when using the warranty. When you think of the cost that can be incurred with a major failure it is a good cost vs benefits move. As with other types of insurance , Homeowners, Health, Car/truck/Rv we can afford a reasonable premium to protect against a great loss. We do not understand the "you will never get your money back" on a warranty as we have never got our money back on any insurance unless there is a catastrophic loss. Home/car/truck/ health/ warranty insurance is not a investment plan.

Beware florida residents, state law requires us to pay the going rate set by florida ford dealers. There are workarounds but nothing is easy.

My Ford extended plan saved me thousands, it is a gamble, but I would have had a $7,000 repair bill. They even replaced the steering wheel on my truck under the plan. I have a 2008 Super Duty

All insurance is a gamble. Over the 45 plus years we have paid homeowners insurance and auto insurance we have received only fraction of our money back so why have it???

Well for sure in our case the Extended warranties on the Montana's have been well worth the money. The repair bill for our two failed tanks replaced last
July was 1,770.70.I have got two more failed. That will exceed the cost of our warranty.

Have to take my Super Duty in Monday, won't go into 4 wheel drive and the exhaust as taken a liking to smoke constantly, regen on steroids. Probably needs a sensor or something.
BUT, I know it will only cost me $50 no matter what is wrong with it, plus, I get a rental car/SUV/truck of my choice.
(Assuming the problem is covered, but I have the best coverage, so I imagine it is.)
Always has been covered completely, even got a new gas cap that wouldn't screw back on easily. Will let you know.

Just got our truck back. We had departed Las Vegas, going south, and were climbing Baker Grade when we heard a swoosh noise, and immediately lost power. The info display said the exhaust brake had been deactivated, then said we were operating under reduced power (no kidding!!), could barely make 10 mph to get off the highway. I pushed the OnStar button, they did a diagnostic on it, and said the turbo control and the turbo had codes. We managed to proceed up hill, made the next overpass to return to Vegas, all while going less than 20 mph. Once we passed stateline, we actually were able to get up to 65 mph for a while. Got to Oasis RV park OK, dropped off the Monty, and took the truck to the Chevy dealer. Gave us a rental pickup, and the next day I got a call that it looked like it was the #2 injector that failed. We got the truck back, with the new injector, and it seems just fine. Total bill to GM for this warranty repair is just a bit over $1500. The same repair out of warranty would have been a little over $250 more, as GM only pays them $110 per hour, compared to almost $135 per hour normal shop rate. Glad it was still under warranty.
