Too Expensive

While I was at the Ford dealer, having my Explorer serviced, I decided to look at trucks. It was either that or watch the Bethany show. One I was amazed at the tremendous selection of 1/2 tons and the few 3/4 and 1 ton trucks available. I did find two with diesel priced $63k-$67k. Now I know that is sticker and who pays sticker but I just don't get it. Thank goodness the Bethany show was still on.

Kind of why I'm hoping I can get enough out of this one to make it my last.

X2 DQDick! Mine may be an '06, but it only has 37k miles on it. May have to put new tires on it sooner than when the tread goes, but I'm pretty sure I can make it last until I'm done driving.

AND I only paid $24k for it!

That's why I recently purchased a 2012 F350 Lariat diesel with only 4,392 miles on it. Still smells new...Less than $40k.

The local Ford dealers routinely advertise $13,000 to $14,000 off sticker, especially on new left over model years. And one a couple weeks ago listed a new 2014 F250 Lariat Diesel for $15,000 off sticker. These prices basically are invoice price minus what ever Ford rebates are available at the time. Now would be a good time to shop for a left over 2014 if in the market for a new truck. I bought my 2012 for $14,000 off sticker late July 2012 when the 2013s were just about to come out.

Still high, but low to mid $50K is much better than the $65K+.

Passed by a dodge dealer last week and checked out a new 2500 D crew cab loaded sticker price $83,650.00. Ouch

I traded my '04 in for mine in Aug.'07. The truck had been on their lot all summer and only had 8 miles on it. It was the only dually they had. I drove it home for 17k and my truck. The sticker was $48,500. The truck had just about every option you could get at the time. Now I see 1/2 tons stickered for much more than that. I agree that's the best time to shop for a new truck, if you don't mind leftovers. All 3 of my Silverados were bought at or near the end of summer.

We have low miles on our 03, only 135,000. Because it sits so much causes some of our problems. We have gone out a couple of times with Monte and one of the times I needed a new left front bearing housing. Besides lots of other things I put about $3500 in to it this year. We are going to drive it to Florida this winter so we can start hauling things back in the spring as the house is definitely going on the market. If the truck makes it I'll keep it.

My 2011 only has 7500 miles on it. Since my right foot died, I get it out of the garage a couple of times a month and let the wife drive it. If the foot doesn't come back soon, I'll sell it. Have put the 5er on an annual site close to the coast.

I just sold my 2001 and bought the 2015 Ford F350 Lariat dully but I figured it will be the last one I have to purchase if it last as long as the 2001. It only had 148,000 miles on it but needed more ump.

With these new 5th's getting heavier and heavier my old trusty 2003 Duramax even with a tuner is pushing it's limits but MAN it is hard to cough up that much cash for a Newer rig that cost as much as my new 5er YIKES!!!

I was kind of getting the "bug" recently but like c214dick I got sticker shock pretty quick. Plus I started figuring up my extras that probably would not work on the new truck, like my Firestone bags, V-tailgate, not to mention my extended warranty. I'm just trying to keep my miles off and only using the F350 to pull the Montana. Can't imagine what these trucks will cost in another 5 years!

And after that. Oil and filter $145, air filter $65, tires $1500. And the list goes on.

I went from a 06 Silverado to a 15. I loved my old truck, and even though our new trailer was over the truck's weight limit, it handled it well - at least that's what I thought until I hooked up to the new truck. The biggest improvement: stopping! The integrated trailer brake, tow mode and turbo brake make stopping so much easier! In most cases, you hit an exit ramp, tap the brake and the whole thing slows down on it's own. I love it. Then there are the little niceties that the old truck lacked like usb ports, 110 v outlet, cooled seats, Bluetooth connection with my phone and sd card slots for music. Sometimes, you make a purchase, then look back and wonder if you did the right thing. There's no wondering here!

Never had a problem stopping since I had disc brakes installed on Monte. Other "goodies" are nice to have but not really needed for us considering the high cost involved.

My 2008 F250 is a perfect truck it is paid for. I know I am very close to its weight limits with the new rig. But it only has 86,000 miles on it soi. Will be keeping it.

I too was shocked when I saw the prices at almost twice the price I paid for my 05. Here's my logic for the price of a new one I could drop in a HD trans, HD Spring pack, performance chip, fix the stupid back window that doesn't work, and put disc brakes on the Monty with lots of $ to spare. Plus, I don't have to think about DEF But with all that logic applied, I'd still like a new truck. Stepped into a big rig at Joplin 44 the other day and the sleeper was awesome. Now that's a truck! I want one of those too.

I'm convinced that the sticker price is an artificial astronomically high price used as a psychological tool to make us feel warm and fuzzy when we negotiate down to a ridiculously high price.
