Kevlar-lined gloves LEO's?

I need some 'stick' protection, this winter when I geocache on the sides of mountains in rock piles, I have to be careful where in the pile of rocks I stick my hand into. The Kevlar-lined 'Frisk' gloves should offer some degree of protection. They are priced from $29 to $109 or so. Rattlers do not take kindly to stuff entering their territory.
Lat winter I could have easily been the 'former Ozz'.
Got hit by a Western Diamondback on the right calf, if I hadn't had my Snake Gaiters on, oops.. I was 15 minutes from my truck, 20 minutes from the blacktop, then 30 minutes from I-10 and 40 minutes from a hospital in the Phoenix area.
She probably had a 'Fang-ache' after striking my snake proof gear.
I say 'she' because my first two wives were Venomous creatures...

30 seconds after she hit my leg:

Getting ready to strike again:

My snake protection:

That was one of the Ducks I was putting out on the back side of Saddle Mountain, I strung out 6 of them over a few miles.

That snake would have needed some Kevlar protection of it's own if I had been there.

I don't know Ozz. I think I would rather have a garden hoe to turn those rocks first before sticking my hand down there. What if it decides to do a full strike and gets above the glove? At least if you start moving things around you'll hear it buzzing. Be safe.

I am careful and use a walking stick I made with rebar in the end, I use that to flip rocks. I need the gloves for reaching in.
Oh, I can't hear the rattle.. Might be a problem...

Ozz when a find a rattler on the mountain where I like to goof off, I get a stick and toss it off the road because I know the next person will have its rattlers in their pocket. I've never had one to strike at me. I take the stick and pick them up and toss them out the way.

I dont think that Kevlar gloves would stop a fang of a rattel snake from penatrating through the material, seeing that they use a sewing machine to stitch them together and it didnt stop the sewing nedel. but they would be great for keeping the hands from getting scratched by the bushes.

They guard against needles when frisking, that is why I asked about them. They do work. It is the liner.

Was never stuck with a needle but did take a slice from a filet knife that only cut the outer leather covering. I bought and issued all of my officers a pair of them. I still have a pair that I wore while motorcycle riding, just n case. Would hate to put them to the'snake test', but I am sure that they would be better than nothing at all.

We used them while cable splicing. Inside of phone cables it is wrapped with metal sheath. Makes you able to grab a hold of it to pull it open and not lose any fingers. The gloves we had would not have stopped fangs but that kevlar stuff is pretty amazing stuff. As far as the legless critters I think I would find a different hobby lol lol...

If I'm not mistaken, an arrow or knife can penetrate Kevlar so fangs probably would. Correct me if I'm wrong. X3 on doing what I do. I have a diamondback headband on one of my hats. I killed him with a shovel, the closest thing I had near me at the time.

A kevlar vest might stop the fangs, only if they were not long enough to go through. The gloves being thinner in construction, I would not trust. A knife will go through the vest if stabbed, a slashing motion will cut the kevlar.
You would need something to protect up to your elbow. If you were to get your hand by the snake without it striking, your forearm could be targeted.

Another thing to remember is that the baby snakes do not have rattles on them yet, but can still mess up your day.

Thanks Steve. I was thinking if it didn't protect 100%, like you said, it would be better than nothing, or the leather hiking gloves I use now.

I still have a pair of Kevlar lined leather gloves that I wore when a Sheriff's Reserve Deputy. They are much tougher than plain leather and offer reasonable protection from sharp objects, although I think a needle point would penetrate. I use them now as shooting gloves, and keep them "handy".

I call bogus on the needle stick. It looks as if the guy is pushing down on it to make the needle bend. I bet if you stabbed the glove. it would go right into it. Plus he was going slow, snake strike is not slow.
