That's interesting and hopefully correct...

A fella over on DieselStop said there is no need for an EGT guage on the 6.7 He claims the engine monitors the EGT and will defuel if temp gets too high. I know that my oldest son is an over the road truck driver and he claims the Volvos his fleet uses do the same thing, so there is no EGT guage. Those trucks are way more expensive than ours and he claims the computers in them monitor all sorts of thing to protect the engine.

I dont know anything about that fella over on DieselStop ( I belong to that forum (winter traveler)), however for whatever it is worth, the dealership service manager where I bought my last three ford 350 diesels and in whom I have great confidence, says my truck's computer has everything it needs to monitor and manage engine performance. My 6.7 so far is the best tow vehicle I have ever owned. There certainly are after market guages that can be installed, if inclined to monitor more closely. I run stock, but remain aware that on long uphill pulls, there is the potential for heat buildup, and pedal to the metal is not necessarily the best way to handle steep inclines.

Ford has a 100,000 mile warranty on the engine and it is in their best interest to protect it. It will defuel when temperatures get too high. I think the 6.4 will defuel at 1450 but I'm not certain of the exact temperature. The 6.7 is probably about the same. It may not be necessary to have a EGT gage but I still have one.

Did anyone else get the recall for the defective NOX sensor? A computer reprogram is also involved.

I got the recall and have had it done. It is called 12B33 and the paperwork my dealer gave me refers to it as PCM and NOX sensor recalibration. I guess I would be hesitant to refer to it as defective if it is still in my truck and has only been recalibrated.

If that NOX sensor has to do with calibrating the engines fuel consumption as some believe, it might even help or hurt fuel economy. Let's cross our fingers and toes and hope it helps.

What engine is the recall for? I see you recall folks have 2011 Ford trucks and I'm guessing it's the 6.7 Diesel.

I have a 2012 and just checked online but don't see a recalibration for the 2012.

I checked with my service manager, and some 2011s are on a recall list, but not a blanket issue for all 2011s. Ours is not on the list. You can go to Ford.Com customer support and log in if you have registered as an owner, or punch in your VIN if not, and get recall information specific to your vehicle. as well.

No recall on mine, but Ford is providing a no-charge Customer Satisfact Program 12B33.
I'm finally getting somthing free from Ford, must be my birthday.

It is the 6.7 Diesel, but it appears as not all. Must have been the early ones as I got mine in October of 2010.
I'm hoping as another poster that after they complete the recall I'll get 20 MPG pulling the Monty.

Ours isn't really broke in yet, but we got 17-18 mpg on a recent trip and that was even with 70 mph (legally) for quite a bit of it...
Anxious to see what we'll get when towing.

Have my gage set to give me a alarm at 1300 EGT on the 6.4 so have never seen higher to confirm that it will defuel.

Rich I feel a lot like you. I really appreciate Ford looking out for me but with 50 grand on the line I really like to help. Just kinda makes me feel better.

They are making these truck engines much more sophisticated. The last corp jet I flew could not be over torqued. If you fire walled the throttles, the computer would automatically pull the engines back to a safe range. JMHO, but sometimes they over think these things. If one engine quits, you might need that little bit of extra power to save the aircraft...at the expense of an engine.

I received my recall notice yesterday. The NOX sensor failed at less than 700 miles. Other than that, this truck has been problem free and is the best tow vehicle I have ever owned.

Received my letter about 4 days after my check engine light came on. Replaced the sensor, all is well.

Another reason for a EGT gauge is to make sure you dont shut down your engine if its too hot. I let mine cool to 300 degrees.

I had the recall done to my F250 with 16000 miles on it and around town I went from 12.3 MPG to 13.4 MPG . will find out this week as we head to the Keys of FL to see what it does pulling. In the past I have gottern 10.5 to 11,0 towing but others say they get better as I drive at 62 MPH towing and do not use tow comand as that reduces the MPG by 1/2 to 1 MPG . the Mech said some get better ,and some get worse MPG so I guess I don't get the best but so be it.
