5th Wheel vs. Gooseneck

What are the advantages and disadvantages of a Gooseneck. Specifically is if feaseable to convert a gooseneck trailer to 5th wheel. I already have the hitch for a 5er but need a trailer to haul a car back from Idaho. I do not care for tagalongs.

hi, i have Not converted a gooseneck trailer, but built several flat bed car haulers with fifth wheel pins. Six Robblees (509-535-8862) and Northern Hydrualics are a couple of sources for parts. I see no reason you could not mount a fifth wheel pin on a generic gooseneck ...

There was a thread on this about two months back. The Lippert rep was quite adamant that the gooseneck will void the warranty without exception. Think about it. The length of the hitch from the trailer to the hitch point represents a lever that works on the front trailer frame. That lever arm is roughly twice as long on a goos neck as it is on a fifth wheel hitch. Thus the distructive forces transferred into the trailer frame are twice as large for a goosneck as they are for a fifth wheel. Of course, your ride will be better because the hitch point is closer to the TV axle, Do a search on Gooseneck with in the last 60 days and you will see the thread where this was discussed.
