Banks Exhaust system

Is anyone running a Banks exhaust system? If you are, is it cat back or down pipe back? Did it help the milage?

Dave, Emily & Martha,

I put the Banks exhaust on my 04 Dodge Ram 2500 CTD. It's the cat back version since I'm in California. My mileage increased by 1-2 mpg.
I was very worried that the truck would be too noisy, (it's not) since the Banks muffler is more of a straight through glass-pac. The thing I noticed most was the significant lack of back pressure. The stock muffler was acting as a full time exhaust brake.

HTH,

Ken

My friend at work has a 6.0 Ford 05 powerstroke and installed the banks turbo back exhaust and he really likes it. Helped power and mpg and it it is quiet.

I am also running a Banks exhaust on my truck. I didn't notice a difference in mileage, but I never tracked the mileage that carefully. I did notice it added some power. It sounds good. I would say its a bit louder than stock, but not by a lot. Mine is the full system (down pipe back). I've had it for about three years and am very happy with it. An added bonus is the nice look with that big chrome exhaust tip.

There are tons of opinions on this subject on the Diesel Place (tends to favor GM). The general conclusion is the greatest benefit is in the area of the muffler. A "straight pipe" style muffler reduces back pressure by about 15% versus entire exhaust pipe and muffler changeout achieving 16%. Also, the general consensus is a goodly decrease in EGT (which can only be good) from any breathing improvement..

I run the whole system on mine and did see a diff. in power and egt. The other thing is that if you go with the full system(down pipe back - monster exhaust ) is that the turbo will spool up quicker.

I'm adding one later this year to my '99 Dodge. My diesel "expert" says EGT's will be lowered, which is the goal for me. We are "EGT limited" on steep/long hill climbs and acceleration onto freeways, etc. That will allow better acceleration / more power at my "personal limit" of 1100 degrees. We'll see how it works out..
