water pump

Just used my water pump on my 2980 and it seems very noisy. Is this a common thing?

Yes! You may be able to quieten it somewhat by placing pieces of foam pipe insulation at rub points. Every trailer I have owned had this problen. If we dry camped more than we do, I would be looking at changing the pump and re-arranging some of the plumbing.

Yep, like OntMont says, they are pretty noisy. Some say that the connections are supposed to be flexible lines (per directions on the pump literature you should have received with your unit). Another help is to put carpet pieces and/or padding UNDER the pump.

I have found that when my 2980 sits in storage for a while it's like a hammer drill on slow speed, I have found purging the system starting at the farthist line, and for me it's the bathroom sink, do the cold then the hot it also gets out that nasty smelling-taisting water with lots of air bubbles in the pipes, I don't know why the plastic pipes do that to the water, it must be what it is made from, my other trailer never had this problem.
I have been thinking of putting that water accumalater that's supose to stop all that from happining. also is your hotwater bypas valve open under the counter next to the heater, that will if closed cause the hammering of the lines.

We had the same problem with our 2980. Got the dealer to correct most of it under warranty. They insulated & isolated the water lines behind the shower, said that they took the shower out to do it. It's quieter, but not "quiet".

Although ours is not a 2980 I expect its a common problem across models. On ours I loosened the pump from its mounting on the floor and sprayed a bed of foam insullation under it. Although not unheard its significantly better.

We just toured the Montana plant and was able to see the infamous noisy pump up close. On the 3670 and 3400 models on the line we were able to grab ahold of the pump from the outside. We noted that the pump itself is NOT screwed directly to the floor,It sets on a base that IS screwed to the floor but the pump is isolated from the base by I think rubber grommets.I could shake the pump and it moved around..However..the input and output of the pump was hard plumbed and I don't think that's right..The one in our TT had flexable rubber tubing. The water lines appeared to be secure through out the unit and we could see all of them.I mean every pump in every camper we had made a noise,I heard one in a 3670 that I thought was noisy
and several others that we thought were OK????? Don't know what to say????

I checked my 2001 3280RL and the pump is screwed to the floor. There are two semi flexible lines for about 6 to 10" and then the hard plumbing. Our pump is very quiet.

I think the secret to a quiet pump is the flexable lines..Our TT was also very quiet.
