To be accurate, the Exhaust Brake wasn't available on a Ford until 2015.

That's not correct, mine is a 2014 and has it. A friend of mine has a 2012 and his has it.

Apparently you are unaware that starting in 2015, Ford introduced an exhaust brake separate from the Tow/Haul function. Try and find this button (the one below the 4WD switch and left of the 12V power port) on your 2014 or earlier vehicle.

Here is some more information on the 2015 exhaust brake.

Exhaust Brake button was not on the 2012-2013. Had a 2013 F450, and it only had the "brake activated" exhaust function. My current 2014 F450 also, does not have the button. While my current truck is 2014 model, it was manufactured in late 2013. I was not aware any Ford had the button until 2015 model with the engine upgrades.

Earlier Ford advertising (prior to the separate exhaust brake switch) had statements to the effect that the diesels had "engine exhaust braking". Seems later the wording was changed to simply "engine braking", in both cases activated by the tow/haul function. Don't know why the wording was changed.

Great info. Thanks. I will be taking a short trip in a week or so, only 100 miles RT, with some hills, so I will try out this advice and see how it goes. Anymore helpful comments, keep posting. Thanks also for the tip on the tailgate, I did not even think of that. Guess I assume everybody is honest.

If you want more info on this 2015 intro by ford, go to bddieselperformance.com and read their info on the true exhaust brake function that covers the 6/6.4/6.7 diesels. This is what I am trying to save money for. Basically, 110+ hp created over the tow/haul mode via closing turbo vanes during de-cel and tranny down-shifted. John
