Porpoising

We have a 2015 3735 mk, pull it with a 2013 Ford F-350 dually, have severe problems with porpoising. We travel with the tanks empty. Also have mor ryde pin and mor ryde 4100 suspension. Any help will be appreciated.

New rig, the montana suspension is likely not the problem. You did not indicate is this has been a problem from the start or a new issue. I would check both hitches, axle torque (often come loose) alignment when hooked up (are you level) and then suspension on truck and trailer to include tires.Porpoising is generally not a problem unless the pavement is rough.

You also may not have enough pin weight.

If it's happening all the time it's one thing, on certain concrete sections of interstate adjusting speed to lessen it is all you can do. The concrete sections have worn and settled setting it up.

Agreed. This would be the 1st thing I'd check.

I have a 2012 F-350 Dually and air bags made a huge difference in our situation. DQDick is 100% correct regarding adjusting speed based on road condition, etc....

do you have a slider hitch? If it is in the back position, it unloads the truck and it will do what you are saying. Or someone installed the hitch too far back of the axle

I'm with racerjoe! I would venture to say that the hitch is installed to far back in the truck bed or if you have a slider hitch it is in the back position and not in the tow position. I did that one time and it really did the job on us until we realized we had not moved it back to the tow position when we hooked up and hit the road.

Since he has a dually there would be no reason for him to have a slider, so until he comes back with more information I think we could rule that out.

If the hitch is mounted a couple inches behind the back axle, plus maybe he is towing nose high that combination could cause what he has described pretty quickly.

The hitch weight is 2360 according to montana specs. It does sit level and the hitch in the truck is over the axle and no slider hitch. I also thought it was a weight distribution problem, but I carry no water in the fresh tank that's in the rear. The kitchen does sit to the rear of the unit. It does do it only when I hit an uneven section of freeway. Then I slow down until it stops. This never happened with my hitchiker previously. It was a 33'.

I would pay no attention to the Montana specs and take it to a CAT scale and weigh it and calculate what the pin weight REALLY is. Manufacturers specs can be very misleading!

This is a common problem and is usually associated with concrete roads and the harmonic undulation of the surface. Keep in mind you have a longer unit now and the interval of hitting the individual concrete sections of the road is different from a shorter unit. As previously mentioned, the solution is to alter the speed from which the porpoising is occurring.

Wish this had been your initial post. I thought your problem was constant, not just when you hit rough roads. Most of us have experienced to one degree or another on rough roads. Reduce speed is the answer, as previously indicated. I have dropped to 40 45 MPH on occasion as I could feel the fiver taking a beating ,

That was my first thought.

This is an edit: I too did not realize this was an on going problem. However, it's still worth checking. The PW from the factory means nothing.

I found that upgrading my shocks to Bilsteins helped to minimize the problem. I can't speak for Ford, but the OEM shocks that are provided on these GM trucks are pretty cheesy.

Had a 2001 F350 DRW with about 32-3500 lbs of pin weight. At around 20K miles I took the OEM shocks off and replaced with Blisteins. Fixed the bouncing you are describing.

A F250 and a F350 use the same part number shocks. Just not enough control for a heavy loaded F350.
