Had 2 sets of BFG's on our truck. The first set we had tread seperation on 3 tires, the second,Commercial TA's, the tread seperated, flew off and caused $1,200 damage to the truck
I haven't read or heard anything about problems with the BFG Commercial T/A. If I do I will be sure to let you all know. As Bingo said, "all brands have isolated instances of failures".

DonandJudy_12, Our tires are 215/85/16's. Michelin has XPS Traction, XPS Rib, LTX M/S2 and LTX A/T2 tires for this size. Our local GMC dealer has a decent price on the Transforce's and they've been pretty good, so far, with other issues.
The Michelin LTX M/S-2 has the highest mileage rating at 70,000 miles with a limited treadwear warranty to back it up. The LTX A/T-2 is a 65,000 mile tire that offers a little more traction than the M/S-2. They call it an all terrain tread, but their idea of all terrain and mine are miles apart. The XPS Rib is an all steel constructed tire rated for 60,000 miles. It is extremely durable, strictly highway, and very expensive. The XPS Traction is also an all steel constructed tire like the XPS Rib. It is a 50,000 mile tire, has great traction in mud and snow, is extremely durable, and extremely expensive. If you're thinking you may want an all steel tire but don't like the Michelin price, the Bridgestone Duravis R250 would be a great option.

Assuming the majority of your driving is on pavement, here is a list of tires I would recommend. They are in order of highest mileage, and my personal preference first. The price is what they are going for in my area, mounted and balanced, each.

1. Michelin LTX M/S-2 - 70,000 miles - $230.00
2. Michelin LTX A/T-2 - 65,000 miles - $228.00
3. Bridgestone Duravis R250 - 60,000 miles - $249.00
4. Michelin XPS Rib - 60,000 miles - $304.00
5. Firestone Transforce H/T - 50,000 miles - $170.00
6. BF Goodrich Commercial T/A - 50,000 miles - $190.00
7. Uniroyal Laredo HD/H - 50,000 miles - $180.00

There are several other manufacturers offering quality tires, like the Yokohama mentioned by kdeiss, Toyo, Cooper, Goodyear, and more. Being a Michelin/BFG, Brdgestone/Firestone, and Continental/General dealer I don't have the other folks' information at my fingertips tonight, but I will look it up tomorrow if you would like.

Good stuff Lonnie! Thanks for posting that.

Nice to see that the BFG commercials are on your favorites list!

Thanks, Lonnie. Seeing the options all together with pricing and especially expected wear is a big help. Everything is pricier here in Canada, but it's interesting that the difference between the Michelin M/S2's and the Firestone Transforce H/T's, all in for our dually, is only $70 for all seven tires. I think our choice is clear!
Thanks to all for your thoughtful answers. Even the political one that taught me something new about an old subject.

$$ for $$, the General Grabber HTS are the best tire I've ever owned by far and I've given them all a try at one time or another.

Michelin LTX M/S-2's installed yesterday. What a difference in the ride driving back from the shop!

I put the LTX M/S-2's on my 05 Ram and after one year, with only 4000 miles the tires all had split around the bead. Michelin gave me 20% credit for replacement of all 4 tires. Spray all of my tires with aerospace 303 now. I traded the truck so can't report on the progress. Interestingly when I was buying the a303 I mentioned about the cracks on the one year old Michelin's and the guy (parts store) told me he had that happen to his Michelin tires also. He said Michelin's are known for that and it is only on the surface and nothing to worry about. I think they were a great riding tire. My new truck has Michelin's from the factory so I'll have to keep an eye on the bead. NOTE: I do live in the high desert at 5400' elevation.

Not to worry about surface cracks sounds like a salesman pitch.

LOL dunno, that was just an auto parts store where I was buying the aerospace 303. I didn't buy the tires there... though yes I would agree with you about the salesman pitch. I didn't think it was acceptable to have cracks all the way around the bead on all 4 tires after only one year.

Goodyear Wrangler AT/S is the tire that came on my 2009 F250. It looks like we'll get 50K+miles out of them.
They are USA made. A good fit for the Kentucky Truck Plant manufactured truck . These are very quiet all terrain tires.

I have Michelins on my 2006 3500 Diesel Ram. I'm at 93,000 miles and still have adequate tread for another 15,000 to 20,000. About 30,000 of the 93,000 miles are towing the Monty.
