Busy Week End

We spent Christmas week In Hemet at the Golden Palms RV Park to spend Christmas with family and to celebrate our daughter Stephanie's birthday on the 28th. We were ready to head home and Janet received a call that her brother Kerry who lives in Fontana but has been working in Reno had a heart attack. At this point he was doing OK, but it was a little early to get a complete report. We came home and waited a couple of days for an update. He was doing OK and would probably be released in a couple of days but needed to come home for R and R, problem was his truck wasn't drivable as it needed brakes. Bunch of calls later Janet rented a car hauler up there and made motel reservations in Sparks near the hospital in Reno. Left home Saturday morning and 9 hours later we were there. Our friends Loren and Kathy had recommended a place in Sparks that had a coffee shop next door. Turned out it was a truck stop with a little casino attached, so we spent New Years Eve with a bunch of truckers and some real friendly locals. Living in Golden Valley we are not used to much night life so we were back in the room by 10 o'clock. Kerry was doing good and was released on Sunday morning, so Monday morning we loaded his truck on the trailer around 10:30 am and headed home. Unloaded him his truck in Fontana and made it to a motel that had enough parking to accommodate truck and trailer at 10:00 pm. Next morning unloaded the trailer at U-Haul and headed home. Needless to say we are both dragging a__. On the positive side Kerry is doing fine and we made it back home. Ray

What a way to end the year. We'll pray that things get better for you all, especially your BIL.

I have a similar travel story during that same time. We live in Murrieta, right down the road from Hemet. We retired from Anaheim, right next to Fullerton, and my BIL just retired to Reno (specifically Spanish Springs next to Sparks) in October and we're going to go visit him later this month.

During the days you describe another BIL who lives in Riverside drove to Sparks to visit the other BIL. They spent a few days including New Years Eve in Reno. On Monday, both BILs caravaned back down to my house to bring down some extra furniture they were donating to other relatives. That is quite a drive and they were tired when they arrived too. On Tuesday, I delivered the furniture. I can sure relate to the distances, roads and towns traveled.

I hope your BIL continues to improve. As you've shown it's important to be able to help family. Happy Birthday to your daughter. My daughter's birthday was on December 26th. This is weird that everything is so simlar.

Ray and Janet,
You were probably exhausted and need to rest! Hook up the rig and head to Q. Not too far from you and you will have many friends to talk things over with! Glad to hear Kerry is doing better. You had an eventful beginning to the New Year! Glad it turned out pretty well. Take care and have a great year. See you on down the road. Dennis and Mary Kay
