BOOM BOOM

The shuttle just went over the C.G on it way to the landing at the Space center. Could not see it since it is dark but the sonic boom was very loud. It was 8:35 EDST and it just touched down at 8:39 EDST.

We got to see both a day and a night launch while we were here.. Awesome..

How awesome indeed and what a wonderful opportunity you had! We had the opportunity to see the one that landed at White Sands. Those sonic booms are really something!

Safe travels.

We saw the space shuttle when it took off in a beautiful nightime launch and just heard (and felt) the sonic boom and thought something had hit the trailer when it landed.

Its just as cool to see the hot shuttle streak across the sky before she does the S turns to bleed off energy. Seems my part of Texas is on the flight path to Florida, have seen the glowing mass fly over the neighborhood a few times.

That is too cool! We don't get the sound effects here, just a speck racing across the sky if we time it right.

I've been woke up by the BOOM many times when I lived in Florida.
I would always shoot out of bed, turn on the tv, watch it land &
then go back to bed.

One night several years ago, my ex & I were making a Florida run
from Tennessee. It was late, I couldn't keep my eyes open, so I
pulled off the exit, crossed over & parked on the on ramp. We got
out to walk around, get someting to drink & let the dog out.
Looked up in the sky & saw this big light going through the sky.
Didn't know what it was. Forgot about it until a few years later
after moving back to Florida, the janitor at the company I was working
for had brought in some pictures to sell. A set of 10 5x7 glossies
of the night shuttle launch a few years before. I looked at
them & when I saw the last picture, I knew that that was what we
saw in the sky that night! Needless to say, I bought the pictures!

By the Way the double boom is the noise first going through the sound barrier and than the tail,At least that's what I was told.

I don't know about an F-14, however a few years ago when the son was in the Navy, we got to go on a Day trip on the Woodrow Wilson (aircraft carrier) and they had an F-18 do that about 2000ft from the carrier. The boom was like getting hit in the chest with someones fist.

Did anyone notice the Space Station go across the sky a few minutes ahead of the Shuttle. Double booms, one from the leading edge of the Shuttle and the second from the following edge. Quite a thrill. Have a Good Day

here at this C.G we are maybe 35/40 miles straight line distance from the space center and it flew practically overhead. There was a low cloud cover and we did not see anything, it was night anyhow but i thought it would stiil be hot from re entry, but the BOOM BOOM shook folks campers. We missed the shuttle a month ago.Looked for it and heard the boom boom but by that time it was long gone.

Ya the Tomcat was also about that far away and when it went by, it actually caused the carrier the to rock, I know thats hard to believe but the carrier was only going just fast enough for flight ops and there wasn't a ripple on the water, it also made you sway as you stood on deck. I actually have a picture as it came by breaking the barrier, I just snap the pic and caught it as it came by pure luck.
