Great story, but the author definitely wasn't very good in US History and wasn't one of my students in HS US History. At the time of the War of 1812 under the US Constitution they were states not colonies and England was no longer the Mother Country. To get the full meaning of this story and the importance of Fr McHenry one should visit the fort.

Dave and Carla,
I agree, but thought it was interesting enough to post. Maybe someone can post some good links for researching more information on this history.

Thanks.

I didn't intend to diminish the posting just the authors terms and apparant lack of good knowledge of US History. Thanks for posting the site. Now back in WI for granddaughter's B-Day at 12 degrees and will be heading back to Mobile on Monday. While the DW is doing wash I'll see if I can't get some sites posted if I can figure out how to do it. What with all the chest pounding and patriotism being lauded it bothers me that most citizens don't fully understand or appreciate what the flag really stands for and what our forefathers fought for. Happy St. Patrick's Day.

Dave and Carla,

I did not take your post as diminishing the intent. I'm glad you pointed it out. History should be recorded and reported as it happened, without embellishments. Please do find some good links and if you need help in getting them up here, please let me know and I'll try my best also.

I spent 23 years in the United States Marine Corps and the flag means a great deal to me. I will defend it to my death.
