You are probably right Mike - but I also heard the Torgue-Shift always was an Allison but couldn't use the name because of agreements with Chev at the time. Either way, sounds like a great truck and either transmission is a great way to tow!

I believe this will clear it up...
http://www.ford-trucks.com/specs/200...uper-duty.html
That also talks about the F450. The only automatic transmission mentioned on the site is the TorqShift. I don't know about F550 and above as they have different engine and transmission options.

Okay be nice, I'm the new guy on the block, I've towed a lot, but not a 5er and am still trying to figure out these 5er weights. berridge, in your initial post you stated the empty truck weight was 7050 and the GVWR was 8800. In a later post you list cargo capacity as 3835.
I don't get it: 8800 - 7050 = 1750 as cargo capacity?? Where did the 3835 come from??

Eagle Man
The 3835 is the cargo capacity of the trailer not the truck. Sorry for the confusion.

I am not trying to stir the pot or disagree with anyone but Allison has been building Fords tyranny's for several years now with the torque-shift sign on it according to a Ford truck pro.
Before that (2004 or 2005)Borg Warner was building Fords trans.
All this from a 25 yr. Ford man who attended Fords unveiling of the new Trans at Atlanta Speedway in 04' or 05, not me, so please don't shoot the messenger.
He may be wrong.

PowellsMonty, thanks for the clarification. I was unaware of that. I'd heard rumors but have seen nothing to substantiate that.
