Just bought 2011 3150RL
and had a few questions. I'm pretty sure our truck is ok, 2002 2500HD 4X4 duramax extended cab short bed. I just tend to worry about towing. Tried to find it in a brochure on Montana's site and it isn't there so now i'm worried that it isn't really a 2011... Sorry, this was a big step and my husband, Pat, is retiring in a month. Also, dealer wants us to buy an extended warranty. Is the quality that bad that we need to spend an extra $2K for this type of thing? I'm leaning toward "No."

1st, congratulations on your new Montana and welcome to the forum! We love our 3150RL.
I'm not a big fan of extended warranties. You need to read the fine print VERY carefully. There are a lot of horror stories about people stuck on the road needing to get something fixed and can't contact the warranty company to "authorize" it so they get it repaired figuring it's covered under warranty only to have the claim denied because the warranty company didn't authorize it 1st (see issues of Good Sams members magazine) I'd rather sock away that money in a "what if" fund and use it if it becomes necessary. In my experience, most issues manifest themselves in the 1st year anyway. Your paperwork (title, bill of sale, etc.) will tell you if your rig is a 2011 model year. Keystone always labels their units 1 year in advance so something that is built in 2010 is marketed as a 2011 (I know it's confusing).

That would explain why we can't find it in the 2011 brochure, but it is in the 2010 brochure. Would that mean that it is actually a year old now and may have been sitting around?

We have a 2005 model that was built in June of 2004. There should be a decal on the front left side that shows the build date as well as some other info. At least that is where it is on ours and I believe it is still located there on the new ones. Congratulations on the new Montana. I'm sure you will love it. I understand it is a huge investment and worrisome until you get comfortable on how everything works. I'm also not a fan of extended warrenties. It's just insurance. You have a year warranty anyway so I would just save the $2000 in case you need it later. I don't think most people spend that much in repairs in the first several years anyway. Also keep in mind many of the components (refridgerator, microwave, etc.) have their own manufacturer's warranty that may be more than one year.

Extended warranties (service contracts) are just insurance and like any other insurance one must understand what they are buying and the terms of the contract. Note that your home owners insurance does not cover every thing that can happen and that is clearly stated..If you read the policy. You also must notify the insurance compant and get approval for the repair.
I would assume that if it is just a insurance policy and not worth it then those that say that have no other insurances.

I dunno know about all that above, but . . I do know that repairs to RV's can be VERY expensive.
I got a national plan through my dealer (if you're interested PM me and I'll give you more details) that cost me $1400.00 and is good for 7 years. It covers the whole coach and all appliances with a $50.00 deductable per occurance. You can't even get a service man to show up for less than $100.00, and that's BEFORE he does any work.
Your call, maybe you like working on air-conditions or refrigerators.

I wouldn't go quite that far. Remember we are talking about service contracts (insurance) for repairs not insurance for damage due to acts of nature or vehicle collisions. Big difference in risk and cost. Case in point we have owned six Chrysler vans in the past 10 years. We put alot of miles on them and use them hard. Each time the dealer trys to sell us a 100,000 mile service contract for usually the neighborhood of $1500 - $1800. The dealer gets a pretty good markup on service contracts that's why they always push them. We usually trade at about 200,000 miles and the current one has 186,000 on it. We haven't spent $1500 on repairs on all 6 put together not counting normal maintenance. Sure the next one may need a transmission at 1,000 miles past the factory warranty but even if it does we're way ahead of the $10,000 we would have shelled out if we had bought the service contract each time. Of course there's a lot of difference between Montana's and Chryslers so you just gotta go with your personal preference. If it gives you $2,000 worth of peace of mind I'd buy it.

Agreed. In my entire life, I have never had to submit a claim against any extended service contract that I have purchased. Lucky? Maybe. I stopped buying them. You'll get all points of view on this subject. Best of luck to you whatever you decide.

I got my 2010 3665RE on 9/30/2009. Starting with 2010 the front cap is rounded, (see my rig). In 2011 model year, the added struts to the basement doors, and nicer door latches on the basements doors.
Wait on the extended warranty, many start at purchase date, and you are double paying for the first year. I waited til 5 days before the factory warranty ran out. I got 7 year with $50.00 deductible from http://wholesalewarranties.net/, cost was 1,297.00 Some components have more than 1 year warranty, so that is also something to keep in mind, when making the decision.

The main reason we bought the extended 7 year warranty (really 6 as it starts on day 1) is simple. We finally have the 5th wheel that goes with our 10 year plan, and 4-5 years down the road, don't want a huge repair bill.
Flip a coin, yes they win, but we could afford the extra warranty when we bought.

We have the 2010 3150RL, bought it a month ago from the Hershey show. Didn't get an extended warranty with it. Had the 7 year extended on our 2006 Wildcat that we traded in. Never used it in the 4 years that we owned the Wildcat.
