Fuse question

In a previous thread someone wrote: "When you put the battery back in, did you accidentally connect it backwards? If you did, even for a split second, you would have blown the reverse polarity fuses in the panel, and the CONVERTER will not charge the battery until those fuses are replaced." When we opened our camper up this spring we accidentally connected our battery backwards. We corrected that, but now the battery will not hold a charge - it is a new battery. My question is how do I know which fuses are the "reverse polarity fuses" when I look at my fuse panel? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

An upside down picture of the Reverse Polarity Fuses (4 @ 25 amps) are in this Thread. The fuses are not in the line along the bottom. They are up further on the converter.

My fuse panel doesn't look like that one. I can't figure out how to post the picture of mine on this site. Our unit is a 2011 Keystone Mountaineer 345 DBQ 5th wheel. I have a feeling the reverse polarity fuses are with my converter and I have yet to locate that! All my fuses are lined up along the right side of the panel and all are 15's. Across the top are just the switches that you turn off or on. Thanks for your input - I'll be doing some research this weekend when I'm at our RV site.

How long do you leave the trailer disconnected from shore power? A fully charged battery in an rv can discharge in a day or two.

You said the battery will not hold a charge. Is it being charged by the camper.

My bet, the fuses are blown on converter. I bet it's located under bathroom floor, behind basement wall.

I suspect the same. I fixed a friend's once who did this. On his, nothing 12v worked so I was wondering where the op's battery is being charged. We need more input.

On our 2010 our converter was located under the stairs, most easily accessed by taking out the basement wall.

Fuse question follow up!

The battery is stored indoors through the winter months we make sure it stays charged throughout this time. Our camper is parked year round at a camp ground - it is never moved. Earlier research I did suggests it is behind that basement panel everyone is talking about. Presently we have a charger hooked up to the battery and also we have an electric hookup. This remedy is working fine, but obviously we'd like to get to the root of the problem. The plan is to find someone who can get in and remove the basement panel to check for those fuses on the converter - hopefully this weekend that will happen. Thanks for everyone's suggestions! WOW I got the picture of the fuse panel to post - i'm proud of myself!

I'm not sure what fuse panel or converter you have, I have a Progressive Dynamics converter/breaker/fuse panel. When you take the cover off the reverse polarity fuses are right there.
Screen shot is from the troubleshooting manual.

This is an older Mountaineer with a WFCO power center. They use a separate converter usually hidden behind the basement wall.
