Have you ACTUALLY measured your rig????

Steve (Southstl) and I measured my 2955RL at the rally to get a more accurate measurement as it looked longer than the 32 feet it is listed as. From the tip of the nose, to the ladder is 34 feet 3 inches. That's 2 feet longer than the book.

Do not take for granted that the number 2950, 2955, 2980, 3255, 3295, 3380, 3400, 3650, 3670, 3685, etc. have anything to do with the length. Directly from the mouths at Keystone/Montana those numbers have nothing at all to do with length.
Do not take for granted that the measurement specs as listed in the brochure or online are accurate. They are not.
Go out and measure it for yourself. You maybe, as Steve and I were, surprised you got more for your money than you thought.
Not bad, within minutes I went from a 32 footer to a 34+ footer and at no additional cost. Trouble is Lorraine and I still can't find that extra 2 feet we gained.

We found the same thing to be true. The paperwork for our 3255RL lists it at 33' - the brochure says 34' 11" - hubby taped the unit and it is 36' - I thought the same thing - WOW! more for our money!

Mine measures 37' 4", seems kinda long when backing up.

Yes from the ladder forward but in my case the nose stuck out further than the pin box by nearly an inch and a half. In some cases the pin box will stick out further.

Ours is lsit at 36 feet we are 37 feet and 3 incehs from extended pin to ladder.

As most already know, the max. square footage for a 5er is 400 - some federal regulation I think. I had a fellow Montana owner once tell me that the model numbers actually relate to the rigs square footage. Therefore a 3280RL would have 328 square feet. I have no idea if this is true or not, but it sounds reasonable as the model numbers increase in proportion to the length of the rig.

I've always found that the listed overall lengths on Montanas always exceeded those posted for other makes. ie a 2980 is 32" while a Jayco 29RL is 30'. Also I've noticed that a 3575 was 36'6" while the new 3380 is 37'1". So I really don't understand Montana measurements.

I have always understood the first 2 digits referred to the length while the second 2 digits were the floor plan. ie Expect all XX55s to have the same basic layout. 2980s were the same layout as the 3280 and the 3380 except kitchen is on the other side.

This makes it hard when you try to sell a Montana. My experience recently shows people look at a Montana 27 and wonder why I want more money than other 27s. People just don't understand the quality and real size differences.

We measured the beast several times, we came up with one inch shy of 37 foot. That was from the nose to the end of ladder. I remember some one questioning our measurement, that was why we did it again, several more times.

The number is not the square footage because the 3400 is 399 sq. ft. or so say Keystone. We had a 29XX in another brand that was 31.5 so I think that method of numbers = length is maybe old and not true any more.

A salesmen told me that this was true for the 3400, but the new 3500RL, certainly won't be 500 sq. ft. I don't really think there is any logic to the numbering. I once thought it had to do with frame size, but I'm not convinced of that any more.

I just put my 3400RL away today in the storage shed. It was measured at the location since they charge $2 per foot. We came out with a measurement of 38' 8" from the rear ladder to front of kingpin. To make life easy I would just say the coach is 39'x$2= $78 a month for indoor storage. Not too bad in my opinion.

More for your money is good, unless you expected the manufacturer's literature stating the unit to be 32'long to be accurate so you think it will fit inside your storage/shop building with 6 inches to spare, and after purchasing it, finding out the 34-1/2 long Montana won't fit the building!!!

After reading this thread I was concerned about the length of my coach because we had recently purchased a cover that just barely fit according to the manufacturers specs. Over this weekend I measured it and found it to be 2 feet longer than the specs say it is Montana says the length is 36’ 10”. It is actually 38’ 10” measured from the front of the cap to the end of the ladder. Luckily I was able to return the cover before opening it and trying to use it.

I understand the model number has nothing to do with the length, but when they put specifications on a chart stating the length of the unit, how can they be off by 2 feet

Along the same lines - has anyone measured the height and compared to published figures? A unit taller than published could spell trouble.

Our 3575 also measures 38'8". Now Dane has got me wondering about the height. Could that be way off too?

As near as I can tell, mine is 12'6,that's 5" shorter than the spec sheet. Maybe if I put some more "stuff" in it I'll be lower yet.

Both our Montanas were just a bit shorter (height) than advertised. AC unit was the tallest point.

It seems to me that the answer to the meanings of the model numbers is simple. The don't mean a thing. I think they were dreamed up by a marketing specialist. Remember the Olds 442? Everyone thought that was the cu in displacement. But it was just a marketing ploy.

Now I AM in trouble. I have been trying to convince my wife that we need to trade up for a 3400RL. She ain't buyin' it. Once she learns that our 2955 is 34 feet long, I'm done for.
