Emergency Exit Lever
This window mechanism is so delicate I don't even want to open the window. After breaking mine I learned that these levers come in different sizes. Is there any better bracketry out there or do I have to make my own?

Replacement levers are about 10-15$ so unless you plan on cutting some aluminum to match the plastic latch on the window (which is what I assume broke) then I’d just buy the latch replacement.

It was the bracket that rivets to the window that broke. Right where the cotter pin is. Perhaps making a heavier bracket is the fix.

This is for the longer latches not the short one that is needed.

Montana man had the same problem with ours they replaced it 3 times I called Lippert who owns the window manufacturer and they literally sent me a complete new window even though I was out of warranty. They have updated the lever finally it's a rubberized connection.

Agree. I have had the brackets and plastic hardware break twice. The next time it breaks i will make my own. It's best to carry some tape with you so if it breaks while traveling you can tape the outside of the window as i have had to do. It would be better to install 2 of these on the window so as not to have to much pressure on one bracket. Come to think of it i might just try that.

Mac the fire guy used to present at the national rally every year and said we should practice with the emergency windows so I asked the Keystone people at the Keystone presentation if they though that was a good idea. They said they wouldn't do it if it was them. Ten years of full timing and two Montana's later and I still haven't opened one of those yet.

What I hate about them is that the wind can yank them right outside the trailer when you have them open. Then the window will flop in the wind and could break. Fortunately I caught it in time and fed it back into the trailer. Now I only open them if I am sure the winds will be light.

If you're careful you can drill a small hole down through the handle slot and the handle, then straighten a paper clip to use as a pin to secure the window in the open position.

My window sticks to the rubber gasket if i haven't used it for awhile, i just push gently around the edge of the glass when opening or go outside and pull out a little bit to get the rubber gasket unstuck instead of forcing the window open with the lever or the crank ones

It looks like they fixed it. Mine is a 2018 model and the bracket is screwed to the frame, no rivets or cotter pin.

Mike, you aren't the only one that has had problems with this latch. You have had some good suggestions here and if you want more do a search on the Search Engine at the top of the page and type in Emergency Window latch. You will bring up quite a few posting on this subject. Check them out and you'll find even more suggestions. Good Luck and Safe Travels!

Thanks all for the input. It appears that one replacement is exactly what the factory used. The other is the same in plastic at 4 times the cost of metal. I have the old broken bracket and am going to modify it to a usable standard. I will post pics after our next trip.

Wow, I guess we have been fortunate. We have had 3 Montana fivers 2008, 2012, and 2018 and never had a problem with them.

You may want to try one latch on each side so that there won't be so much pressure on just one latch.

Well my plastic bracket just broke without ever trying to open the window. The bracket appears to be riveted to the window. Screwdrivers and allen wrenchs do no good. So how can one buy a new bracket and put it on if you cant get the old one off. My window is taped shut for now with good old Duct Tape

To remove the old handle, drill out the rivets then get a new part and rivet it back on. Search amazon, etrailer.
