Slide out problems

A word of warning and a thank you to MIMF

We were recently in the Spokane Wn area.
When I was bringing the slides in RIP SNAP the dining room slide
came in to one side and ripped a piece of moulding of the wall.
We were lucky it wasn't the bedroom which out of sight from the
switch.
I went on the website and found the msgs about the 1/4" bolts
from MIMF. I replaced with longer bolts. When we returned home
I went to change the other slide bolts. I reached up to unscrew
the first bolts and it fell in my face.
I suggest you all check and make sure you have the longer
bolts. Our trailer is a 2005 3685 mfg. in Sept 2004 I think.
Thanks again MIMF. A question; Wouldn't a pin and a clip be
easier than a bolt?
Thanks
Glenn

Welcome to the Forum. Glad that you found a fix for your problem with the slides.

Since you're so close (Oregon), are you coming to the rally in Reno, October 5-ll? We'd love to have you join us.

I looked for the post, but could not find it. What was the date and in which section/heading did you locate the advisory?
Thanks,
tjw

MIMF, I still haven't bought the extra bolts and need to do that. I can't find that earlier post. Would you mind saying again what I need to buy? Thanks.

Glenn, thanks for the reminder.

Good morning folks,

Yes, those cross-shaft bolts are 2"X 1/4-20 grade 8 hex-head bolts. For added protect against corrosion or rusting, you can buy them zinc coated. The nuts are the nylok type.

This means the bolts are 2 inches long from the bottom of the head to the tip of the threads. The shoulder is 1 inch long, the threaded length is also 1 inch and the diameter is 1/4 of an inch. There will be 20 turns or threads on that 1" section of the bolt.

The shoulder of the bolt is the strongest portion of the bolt. At one end of the cross-shaft, the shoulder will just pass thru to the other side of the cross-shaft with the nut barely tightening to the surface of the square tube. At the other end, the nut will tighten against the shoulder of the bolt without touching the tube surface. That's OK because it still won't come loose. In-other-words, the nut is going to be approxiamately 1/4" away from the side of the square tube.

Any more questions, you all know where I am.

Oregon Gypsys,

I forgot to add. Yes , it would be easier to use pins and clips. However, clips have the tendancy to fall off and pins to slip out and then you will have more RIP SNAP!

My suggestion. Replace all four of them. If you are going to be at the National Ralley, I'd be delighted to do it for you.

Thank you, Dale. When do you leave for Minden and when do you arrive?
