Soft Water system
Hey guys,
Have a soft water system hooked up now and I have it in a 5 gallon bucket for stability, but, even though they said it is fine with my heated hose hooked up to it and it should not freeze, what can be done to keep it warm? Thinking of putting something in the excess areas inside bucket around the unit, but it can't be just towels or a blanket. Came through this past cold snap very well, no problems. Just looking to the future. Thanks!

Maybe a 120vac plug in battery heater. They run about 75W. I have one in my battery compartment and one in my basement. Both compartments maintained 40°F last week when it got down to 28°F outside overnight.

Could use a short heat cable. Another answer would be to move the softener into the rigs basement. For my internet connections I've drilled a hole thru the wall into the covenience center, no reason you couldn't run the water thru there.

We've had our softener set up in the pass through since we got it, and never drilled any holes for hoses. When we were in extremely cold weather, I used a small electric heater fan to keep the hoses from freezing.

My setup is similar to this. I have the softener, a pre-filter(sediment) and a post-filter(carbon) interconnected with the short 4' hoses, all inside a rubbermade tote. The tote holds it all together, provides me with handles to remove the whole assembly at once and it will catch any drips. Although, I did drill through the wall into the convenience center to pass the hoses to connect. We are fulltime and it stays there, no need to set it on the ground. When we connect at each park, the 25/35/50 or the 50ft heated hose is the only thing I need to worry about. I have insulation around the hose at the service entrance. We have been in the teen/single digit temps before and if I am concerned I place a small portable heater in the basement, it really only needs to be in the low 40's to stay safe obviously but if the electricity is free... 70 degrees keeps the floor warm too.
