Jigsaw puzzles vs. traveling
I'm retiring in 37 days, 23 hours, and 1 minute (probably less by the time I'm done typing) and my wife and I will be spending lots of time on the road after that.
I'm looking for a practical way to build a jigsaw puzzle at the dining table without completely monopolizing the table. Has anyone found a good way to save their progress and move the puzzle out of the way and then get back to it? I've seen mats that roll up, but I'm not sure how well they work or how practical they are in a home that moves.

DW says the roll-up mats work better than nothing, but she is not a raving fan of them. You should get one and try it.
Retirement is nice! I retired July 31 and I am real good at doing nothing…but I find that the nothings I work on keep me real busy! Mostly DWs list of stuff.

I got my wife a Ravensburger Puzzle-Store Storage System 17962. We have not travel with it but she can work the puzzle and close it up, store it on its sided in the closet. When she goes back the puzzle is still as she left it.The only problem is how big the finish puzzle is- it says up to 1000 pieces but that is a Ravensburger puzzle. She make sure the finished puzzle is within the size of the carrier.

I think you just sold me. It won't come in time for Christmas, but my wife's birthday comes hot on Christmas's heels. She'll get this puzzle system and a lifetime Sr. national parks pass (and whatever else I think of between now and then).
Thank you jfaberna.
EDIT: You just cost me a few more bucks when Amazon told me "people like you" also liked these other puzzles. And I also found another Amazon offering to get me the organizer in time for Christmas.

Nothing to suggest for the puzzle, but since I retired, I've been busier than ever! At the end of the day, I'm pooped! And we're 99% full timing!

I was more excited leading up to my wedding day in the 80s, my children's birth in the 90s, and our first grandchild's birth earlier this year, but looking ahead to January is absolutely in my top five moments of anticipation.
My wife retired earlier this year and all of our friends gush over how much more they love "Retired Pam". Hopefully Retired Dave will be just as upbeat and amazing. Time will tell.

To preserve the puzzle. Use a piece of Plexiglas cut to the size of the table and place it over the puzzle when traveling, dining or whenever the puzzle is not being worked. On Command Velcro tacky strips could be used to hold the Plexiglas in place while on the road - two at the wall should do it.

Thanks. I already bought the Ravensburger organizer and gave it to my wife for Christmas yesterday.
