I have a 2023 Montana High Country 311RL with solar panels and lithium batteries. I confess to not understanding how solar really works. I do know that they keep my lithium batteries charged. At my new RV walk-through the technician told me to switch the battery on -off switch to off at temps below 40. Is this overkill? Seems that 32 degrees and below is what I've read in most articles. For those of you with lithium batteries what are you doing in this situation?

Unless you have heated batteries follow the below recommendations. The battle born batteries have built in heaters. You can also add heating pads and wraps if needed.



Discharge Temperature -4° F to 130° F Charge Temperature 32° F to 114° F Storage Temperature 20° F to 95° F

Depending on how they wired your solar, the Battery Disconnect Switch will not help you.
The solar wiring for mine goes directly to the 4 gauge wire leading to the battery via a 30A inline red fuse.
You will need to trace the wiring.
As for freezing temperatures, you can draw FROM the lithium batteries at freezing temperatures.
If you charge them at freezing temperatures you will destroy them. Depending on your batteries they may have an internal BMS (battety monitor system) that will prevent them from being charged in freezing temperatures. You will need to check with the manufacturer.
Having said that, in cold weather OR if I'm on shore power I turn off the MPPT. If freezing temperatures are expected I turn off the converter circuit breaker (charges the battery).
I installed battery heaters for using the batteries in freezing temperatures.
