extended hitch pin

Has anyone had trouble with the breaking or failure of the extended hitchpin?

Thank you to those of you that responded to our roof problem. We are still waiting for Keystone to responded to our repair facility in Lake Havasu City.

Mikesal,

Al has read a LOT of forum posts, on this forum and others. He said he has never read of a failure on OEM extended hitchpins. He has read, where people have changed from a regular to an extended and had frame problems. He is telling me (I am typing as he is talking), that you need to check with the manufactuer before doing such a change and that in the cases he has read about the trailer was not manufactured for an extended hitchpin and that it puts different forces on the frame, therefore the trouble and problems.

I am sure some of the other fellows will come along with more comments and ideas on your questions.

Good luck with that roof repair!

Carol

mikesal,
We had to put on a Pop-up 10" hitch extention to our hitch on a 3400RL.
I could not put in a slider hitch in the short bed because of a bed aux. fuel tank.
It has worked well.

No problems with any of our fivers with the extended pinbox. All were OEM, though.

I bought a TrailAir pinbox from a former MOCer a few months ago. It is an extended version. I didn't think there would be a problem since an extended pinbox was an option for our 2002 3575RL. However, I did go ahead and call Montana about it and they cleared the change.

Warm weather is here so I can paint the TrailAir (bottom of the jaw was scrapped and rusty) and get that installed.

After a couple of 80 degree days, we have the camping fever really REALLY bad...
