Lazy Days, PDI and Montana 3711FL

Went to Lazy Days Tampa today to pick up the new 2016 Montana 3711FL. LD had no issues with us doing an extensive PDI; took nearly three hours. Ended up with a list of 13 issues, two of which were serious (plumbing leak in the underbelly and separated caulking on the roof at each end). The other items were small stuff. LD didn't push us to sign for the unit and they're going to repair it in the next two days, at which time we'll be on our merry way. So, a little disappointed they didn't catch most of the problems themselves, but overall a good experience.

Good job to catch those things before you got on the road!

They don't like to fix stuff before rigs are titled, the warranty doesn't begin until it is and they don't get paid to fix them.
it's disgusting really.

Get everything fixed before you pull off the lot. Eleven years snowbirding in st petersburg/Madeira beach. Lazy days has a bad reputation for follow-up service, but good reputation for competitive purchase pricing.

Interesting. My only experience with LDs was attempting to purchase an RV. They were extremely high, refused budge...we left.

I have to agree with Mike, even though my experience with Lazy Days is limited to only the purchase of one new Montana.

I was actually shocked at where they started negotiations. The starting figure was lower than I had expected! Options were added plus the total price went down from there. At least two years ago I don't think their prices could be beat anywhere in the nation.

However, returning for warranty work was a joke! Parts not ordered, wrong parts ordered, poor workmanship........

Phillyg was smart for spending so much time finding all those defects prior to driving away. I can promise you that if you return in a couple months with warranty repairs their attitude will be more like "now who are you and what do you want?"

We did price a 2013 Montana at LD and their pricing was over the top. We have head that their pre delivery PDI is excellent but any return service is not good.

The PDI on our 06 3400 took two days and delayed delivery by one week but rolled out of the dealers lot with all defects corrected. Five months later it burst into flames in Quartzsite due to improperly run electrical and hydraulic lines in the underbelly were we could not have seen them. The PDI on our 13 3402 took one day and delayed delivery by two days(defective awning). We drove it to a MOC rally 3 days later and when we got there the John had come loose from the floor.Such is life in the RV world but still a in depth PDI is essential to detect issues right out of the fact ory.

Thanks for the responses and you're all correct, although we believe we got a good price because we had to trade in our Wildcat. We were warned by others about LD's pushiness regarding long PDIs and trying to get us to sign for the unit up front (which didn't happen) and lack of good service, and that's why we tried to catch everything from the get-go so we don't have to go back. Interestingly, I just got off the phone with the sales rep who called me about coming up to pick up the FW; he didn't even know we were there yesterday! We did notice a lack of communication within the LD staff. Anyway, hoping to get it all resolved and on the road tomorrow or Thursday.

Depending on how you use the Unit the dealer may not make much of a difference except in the purchase price and PDI. We are all over the country and our purchasing dealer is in Northern Ohio. If we need a dealer while on the toad we contact Keystone customer service and they will find and recommend a dealer and in most cases clear the way for us.We have not had a issue in 10 years on the road.

Phillyg, even though I have often given Lazy Days bad marks for customer service, if I ever purchased another new FW I would probably give them a shot. The one we purchased from them was our first new unit and I was still in the "learning curve" when it came to dealing with Keystone's warranty and how many dealers do repair work. Money talks when you are making a deal.

I agree with Rich about how to approach the repairs. We were full time and for some of our issues we weren't anywhere close to Lazy Days in order to get the repairs done there anyway.

Congrats on your new unit. I am guessing you got the best deal possible and you should be very happy with the choice.
